changed carbs but more problems

I switched my Holley for a 600 edelbrock performer from a buddie, problem is the edelbrock runs very good but all the choke parts are missing, choke plate linkage, everything. It has not been to cold in Texas since i changed but I am sure I will need a choke soon, where in the H--- do you get parts for it? I have not ben able to locate these parts, maybe I might have to make my own plate and figure out some kind of manual linkage.

Re: changed carbs but more problems

If it were me id just look on Craigslist or ebay for a cheap one that needs to be rebuilt that someone is selling and pull the parts off that i needed......if i couldnt find one that way i would look on Craigslist for shops offering carb rebuild services and call and ask if the had the parts theres all ways two or three shops in my area that offer carb rebuilding service,or id call local hotrod shops looking for the parts or a cheap carb...and last id just get on the phone with someone at edelbrock and order the parts but this will probably be more expensive then finding a used carb needing a rebuild...and another option is goto a carparts swap meet and find a used carb........edelbrock 600 cfm carbs are a dime a dozen shouldn't be hard to find a used one....

heres edelbrock's info off the website on how to get ahold of them:

Re: changed carbs but more problems

I'm with everything Losthope just said. If you have swap meets in your area that might net the cheapest solution. The few meets I go to seems to have an endless supply of these things laying all over the ground, many in the $10 range. From a practical standpoint I think it would be somewhat involved and difficult to fab up all the pieces you might need, unless you have machine shop facilities at your disposal.

Re: changed carbs but more problems

Still didn't see the parts needed to replace CHOKE PLATE on 1406, I checked craigs list and places, If I could find a used edelbrock for10.00, I would snap it up but can,t. Even for Texas its hard to find a 10.00 carb?

Re: changed carbs but more problems

Believe it or not, the O'Reilly auto parts stores here have or can get Edelbrock carb parts. Finding a complete carb for $10 will be difficult, not like a Q-Jet that no one wants. I'll do some digging, I may still have a broken one from a wrecked truck I can take parts from. Do you want manual or electric choke?

Re: changed carbs but more problems

Since a edelbrock 600 cfm costs around $225.00 rebuilt from edelbrock or ebay....I would say you will most likely find a used carb anywhere from $50 and up to $75 on craigslist,if anyone wants more then that i think it wouldnt be worth it to purchase just to pull parts off of...i think the only way you will find a cheaper one is if its already missing parts or if you goto a swapmeet where people are just trying to get rid of them....really the best bet to find a really cheap carb is a swapmeet......

my rule of thumb is if you are buying any carb used expect to be rebuilding it,so with that said.....

lets say you found a used carb for $50-100
rebuild kit cost around $45 after driving to go get it
$10 in carb cleaner
total = $95-$155 ball park give or take..

A rebuilt carb from edelbrock $225 with warranty

A new carb $300

So if your just buying one to pull parts i wouldnt pay more then $75 even then it might just be better to rebuild the parts carb instead of messing with swapping the parts....

craigslist it is best to check once everyday because adds are always expiring and new ones are being posted constantly..
And i would post a add in the wanted section saying you need a carb for parts , some car guy might see it and have that used non running carb on a shelf or in a box!!!!!

And if you do post a add in the wanted section at the end of your post add keywords so your post will be seen in alot of diffrenent areas!! this is a keywords list that i made that i copy and paste into all my adds:

keywords:

This is just off the 1 page out of 69 pages on ebay all under the $100 range you can also look for mode#9906 when looking for parts (9906 is just a rebuilt 1406 from edelbrock):

Re: changed carbs but more problems

Thank you all so much, after thinking about it I bit the dust and went to autozone and bought a new 600 1405 carb, should have did it in the first place. I have to quit trying to nickle and dime this project and instead just go for it. Thanks all for the input.
