POR 15 questions

I'm about to start painting the under side of my bed, axle, springs, and other little parts. I'm wondering how I should go about doing this. I'm leaning towards por 15 for in durability but have a couple questions. I want it black but am not sure what por 15 product to use. I would think that the under side of the bed and other parts should be a satin black and the frame glossy or something. Is this a typical paint scheme people are using out there? When por15 says its semi gloss is that the same as a satin finish?

Should i use the por 15 rust preventative and then a top coat?

por-15 is a excellent rust paint. painting with por-15 rust paint then in order to keep the colour you want you must top coat. It does not have uv protectors in it as it will turn purple over time. But when it is first applied it looks great high gloss black.

I've had good luck with POR 15 on my projects. It does need the topcoat as stated to protect it from UV. You do not have to use their topcoat, you can rough it up and paint it with any paint you want to.

I think the scheme would look fine as you mentioned with everything satin and the frame glossy, this is how my CC project is going together.

On my Jeep ZJ project I painted the whole underside with POR 15 (didn't care weather it was gloss or satin), let it tack up for a couple hours, then topcoated the whole thing with Duplicolor Bed Armor rattle cans I bought from the local parts store. It turned out really nice, check pics below.

POR 15 is excellent stuff, just don't get it anywhere you don't want it to stay...

I did a scout ii with it and it's been outside for almost 6 years without anything rusting (and scouts rust almost as bad as squares, lol)

BabyJay, Let me ask you a question if you don't mind. Is that 1 coat or 2. To me it looks like 1 coat. It looks good thou. A second coat IMO gets alot better coverage and it looks alot more high gloss. IMO a second coat just seems better.

Another option to look at is ZeroRust. I went from using POR to ZeroRust. I like ZeroRust better. I used ZeroRust in my engine bay.
