69 GMC lwb to swb
Hey this is my first thread on this forum!!!
Anyways I decided to start a thread on the restoration of my truck for the following reasons: 1. This truck will be my resume, once finished I will use it to sell myself (like a whore does) to customers. Hopefully I can work for myself after a few years time. 2. This thread will serve as easy access to my resume for customers to few for themselves. As an added bonus it will have comments from forum members saying how good or bad of a job I am doing, so I won't be able to hide anything. 3. And finally it will serve as documentation of the process. My goal with this truck is to produce a final product that is of show quality, something a customer would be happy to pay for and not feel ripped off or disappointed in the quality of the workmanship. With that being said I am doing each and every part of this restoration. Nothing will be sublet out. Also as an added obstacle I will be working on this truck under a metal shed. So needless to say winters are fun. So about the truck, the truck was purchased new in 69 by my grandpa from his GMC/Farm equipment business. It was his personal truck. In 84 he had it painted to the scheme you see in the pics. He passed a week before it was finished. Then it served as a shop truck. Then my mom drove it through college and I drove it all through high school. Then it sat from about 01 till May of 10 when I dragged it out of the weeds and started working on it. The end result of the truck will be painted back to the original poly turquoise, with the original saddle interior, no body mods (ex. the bed), from lwb to swb, lowered 4/front 6/rear, stock wheels with hubcaps, and a 5.3/4l65e from an 00 chevy truck. So to the pics. I will comment on all the pics to catch the reader up. Other then that I will avoid commenting and let forum users do all the commenting. So please speak your mind and hold nothing back. Peace. |

Starting body work.
These are the most recent I have of the body work for now. I left off with all but the outside rockers replaced. I will update the body work once I resume work on it. |

Re: 69 GMC lwb to swb
This is the frame and chassis parts after I sand blasted every damn sq inch myself. In the middle of the one heat wave Washington gets a year. Oh fun. Also you will see how I modified the shed to paint in. It was completely air tight when I finished it, with a filter and ventilation system. Since I couldn't hose the floor off I mixed up sugar water and sprayed the entire floor with a sugar water solution to trap any dirt particles before painting.

Re: 69 GMC lwb to swb
When I primered and painted I used Ceramic Satin Black from Eastwood. I hung all the parts up from my cherry picker because I wouldn't have the space to paint everything at once otherwise.
And now your up to date! |

Re: 69 GMC lwb to swb
So shortly after my last update I got side tracked quitting my job at UPS and getting back into the auto tech trade. After that the weather went to crap so I've spent some time enclosing the shed I had been working under so I can work on the truck through the winter.
So lately I plugged all the unused holes on the floor for the old fuel line and on the firewall including a rusted area by the blower motor hole. But progress is being made again. |
