Power Brake Booster

I need a power brake booster for my 83 C20. I am leaning toward OEM GM at about $212. Are there any aftermarket boosters work taking a chance on? I get GM p/n 19212463 or Delco 178-0725. This part number is supposed to be discontinued but is still available on some websites.

Re: Power Brake Booster

You should be able to get an OEM one somewhere, I may even have one I can send you, let me check this evening but let me give another thought to ponder....

I've seen new ones that are much smaller, so if you ever intend to "clean up" the engine bay of the truck the smaller ones take up much less real estate on the firewall and look way better IMHO.

Another thought also, I don't know if your truck is 4x4 or not but if you ever intend to make it a trail rig you might want to consider upgrading to the 1 ton Hydroboost setup.

If I do find one on the shelf upstairs in the shop you're welcome to it..dirt cheap...because all 3 of my squares are hydroboost and I'll probably never use it.

Re: Power Brake Booster

Thanks. The OEMs are available, just scarce, at $212. I was just asking if anyone had used parts store remans or off brands and if they were any good. I know I want a new, not used, booster but I don't know if aftermarket are reliable or if I should spring about an extra $140 or so for OEM. Hydroboost looks nice, and mine is a 2WD, but the newer trucks/suvs I have owned had hydroboost and I did not notice any better performance, even with antilock brakes - just my perception.

Re: Power Brake Booster

Contact Tuff Stuff or MBM They each have a good quality unit that works well with that series of trucks.

Re: Power Brake Booster

After checking a power brake booster troubleshoot write up I found online, I decided to replace the check valve and filter with NAPA parts for $20.38. I drove the truck about 40 miles and don't have the intermittent hard pedal and weak brake anymore, so I guess it is fixed.
