Power Steering seal replacement?
Question for the experts. Is it possible to replace the seals in my steering box? I'm in Korea right now, and my son wants to do it. He has the tools and the shop to do it. My question is can it be done without too much difficulty, and are the parts even available? Sure would be nice to stop the Class II leak that I currently have. Thanks

Re: Power Steering seal replacement?
I was able to find the seal kit for my 85 at the local parts house, i could get just external seals or a whole re-build kit with internal seals too. Internals on my box were a pain dealing with all the ball bearings in that worm gear..... Probably just look at the online store for your local parts house to get the part number to take with you, the staff at our local stores never seem to be able to find what im looking for

Re: Power Steering seal replacement?
This comes up every now and then. You might use the search button and find it. Last time someone posted a link to a video on resealing the steering sector on the bench. I think it was Kevin from trucks tv or muscle car tv maybe that was in the vid. He tore it all apart and put back together in short order.
No special tools required. Maybe someone will post up that link again for ya.

Re: Power Steering seal replacement?
Yes it can be done. Just make sure you do a little research on the things to watch for and parts you shouldn't remove or move, etc...
I did mine last year. First time I ever tore into a gearbox and still working great. |

Here is the link to that video I mentioned. It is from the Powerblock with Rick doing the rebuild. Good video.

Re: Power Steering seal replacement?
I did mine recently and got the outer seal kit from Oreilly. It is a Powercraft namebrand repair kit, Part #7095
