Is the speedo mechanical or electric?

Re: my iroc guages done!
It's mechanical. I think the early 90's Camaro may have electric I have yet to look into that but I don't want to leave the suburban crowd out either

Re: my iroc guages done!
does the speedo read correct? Or do have to swap over any thing else from the camaro to get it to read right?

Re: my iroc guages done!
that's the best looking gauge setup i've seen. i went to the bone yard the other day and found a tach w\oil pressure guage instead of fuel gauge. what year camaro do i need to find to salvage the gauge from ?

Re: my iroc guages done!
impressive insidious! I think you nailed it with the iroc gauges...looks real nice. I'm gonna scour the local parts salvage for a couple and attempt this on a slow pace.....

Re: my iroc guages done!
I'll have to try this also since I happen to collect instrument clusters. Nothing looks as good to me as factory GM gauges. Hopefully the backlighting will remain uniform..
Sometimes as the Camaro tachs age, they may begin to read higher than normal. Somewhere in the 170K mile mark, the factory tach in my '89 RS started reading maybe 1-2K higher than normal..the higher the RPM the greater the error. It doesn't jump/twitch either. I can finally shift my lil' 305 at 7K now, LOL. One thing that's really cool is that you can do this to a 6-cylinder truck since there are lots of 6-cylinder Camaro clusters out there. V6 clusters will have an 80 lb oil pressure gauge. BTW, all '82-'89 Camaro speedometers are mechanical. There are 85mph, 115mph, & 140mph variants. The '82-'84 85mph units have a dual pointer which is very interesting. '82 model clusters will also have an extra odometer digit (I'd love to know why!). '90-'92 Camaro clusters were completely redesigned & wouldn't apply to this conversion. I can post pics of the various clusters if anyone is interested. If you wanted to REALLY get creative you could find an early Cavalier or Sunbird cluster with Tach cluster. They are rare but those tachs have 2 holes for gauges in them. You'd have to swap out capacitors to get them to read right for the V8 though. I saw a truck with a 2nd-gen Firebird Tach/clock & it looked really good...I was amazed because the guy that drove it was kind of a "Red Green" sort of fellow & he did it himself.. I don't know what he used for a fuel gauge though.

I can finally shift my lil' 305 at 7K The cameo techs have resistors on the back that die out over time. There is a thread on thirdgen.org that addresses this issue. And the lighting does stay uniform as these are just as big as the truck fuel gauge. An you can also run small van fuel gauges I'm sure Posted via Mobile Device

you can prob thank us for that extra line of numbers, we go faster in km and i was wondering if a "80s" tach from a Grand Pix would fit/work it's very simular...i added one to my 81 lemans
