Re: Fuel filter location
My truck has an Edelbrock, but is otherwise stock. The previous owner (my late uncle) didn't install a filter. It eventually flooded the engine because grit jammed the needle valve open.
I installed a filter in the fuel line above the right cylinder head. In hindsight it wasn't a good choice. The lines where they are clamped to the filter are leaking a tad. This is the pressure line, so any leak will show, and it's not in a good place being above the exhaust and all. If it wasn't all hard lined, I'd consider installing the filter on the suction side of the pump. There would be concern of cavitation or vapor lock. But I'm thinking if a large enough filter is used with high surface area in the filter medium, there should be no problem.

Re: Fuel filter location
I have an inline filter just before the pump on most of my cars/trucks. I use a Fram see thru (plastic) and just put in the rubber hose between the pump and the line that sticks through the frame.
It's easy to get to, out of harms way there and away from the hot engine. Best of all, I don't have to cut any stock metal lines.

Re: Fuel filter location
Mine has an inline between the pump & carb, I think it's quite a common place to have one mounted.

Re: Fuel filter location
fuel filter between pump and carb has been proven to b the best way// having fuel filter b4 the pump makes pump work harder and is less reliable

Re: Fuel filter location
I always put one between the tank & pump unless I have a new tank. Grit can get in the fuel pump check valves & cause failure. Its good to have one in the carb inlet or in the line between the pump & carb like Hayhauler says.
