Removing Heater
Im planning to remove the complete heater assembly from my 72 truck to install aftermarket A/C .Any tips to make it easier without damaging all the parts as they may be useful to someone else .The cab is off the frame and sitting on a dolly w/the doors off as well so access is not a problem. What all should be removed under the dash ?

Re: Removing Heater
If it was heater only then it is pretty simple (at least it was on my 68)
Disconnect the cable that runs through the firewall to the air door in the underhood box - there is a plastic cover on the inside that you can pop off for access, the clip holding the cable on can be twisted with needle nosed pliers and broken in half without damaging the stud that it is pressed on to. Take the two screws out that hold the controls to the dash (from the bottom) and then unbolt the inner box from the firewall. There are a bunch of 5/16 head sheet metal screws on the inside and then two studs go through the firewall that have nuts on the under hood side that you have to remove. There are also two electrical plugs (easy to find). You may or may not have to disassemble some of the duct pieces to work it all out but it will be self-explanatory when you get in there and see it. The biggest problem I had was seperating the box from the firewall on the inside as the gasket had it stuck. I pulled mine to clean out rats nests and repaint and have not pulled the under hood box yet. I have done it in the past to replace a heater core and once again, just a matter of screws and seperate the gasket from the firewall. (Disclaimer, that was 5 or 6 years ago) I think if the truck was assembled the fender well has to come out too but you wont have that problem. -Richard

Re: Removing Heater
Please let me know what you want for the heater set up. Mine was stripped by the previous owner. Thanks
