need help from the refinishing guru's

I have a nice original saddle console that someone ignorant at the time (I wont say who : ) thought would look better white a couple years ago. Does anyone know a good, easy way to take rattlecan (krylon) off the molded plastic without screwing the original saddle finish up? If not, any other suggestions? What are you guys using for refinishing the consoles and '72 door panels?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing on the laquer thinner. Might try it this weekend. I'll probably still end up going over it with some of the vinyl dye, though, if nothing else to ensure a match with the door panels. Is there any secret to prepping for that stuff since this is more of an ABS plastic than a more pourous vinyl material? Obviously you dont want to use any typ of sand paper. Maybe wiping down with alcohol? Is the SEM dye something available at the auto body supply houses?

If you have access to some enamel reducer or mineral spirits I would try it first over the lacquer thinner because it not as strong. May take some more time but have better results. If you respray with sem dye then scuff with some scotch brite pads and clean it with some wax and grease remover first.

put some brake fluid on the hard plastic parts. it will loosen it up and then you can brush it off with a stiff brush.

I've had good results on the hard plastic painting it with regular enamel spray paint, if you can't get the old paint off.

Go to a parts store and find rubber bumper paint stripper, comes in a spray can.
