Just did this today. Went from a one wire alternator to the normal internal regulated alternator. I chose to connect the Red to the Blue wire with a butt connector and the Brown to White wire with a butt connector. Bought the connector at Advanced Auto. They call it an extender. It has a Red and a Black wire on it. I call it my new alternator plug. I removed the wires from the extender keeping track of where the Red wire was on the extender. I then placed a Packard 56 type connector on the Blue wire and put it in the plug in the spot the Red wire use to be. I did the same with the white wire and it almost looks stock. I bought an alternator for a 75 C20. I required some shims on the bottom bracket. I used washers to take up the gap. The two halves of the alternator were 180 degrees out. I removed the pulley/fan from the shaft and removed the four bolts holding the halves together. I used a screw driver to pry the front half up high enough to rotate it to the new orientation and bolted it back together. Care should be exercised when doing this to prevent the back half from separating unless you enjoy reinstalling those brushes.
