1972 cheyenne super paint code question

Hi everyone. My truck is in bodyshop. My option number for paint on glove box door is 146210 wht/med bronze/wht. The truck is two tone bronze and white. Is this the paint code i give to the shop for the repaint? Also would you guys paint the top of the dash between the dash and the windsheld black like it was or bronze? This is the first repaint of a clean stock truck. I dont want screw it up but it might be nice to make the bronze a little more orange. Or should i leave it stock. They are painting the inside of the cab maybe tomorrow.

I don't know about the code but I would paint the top of the dash FLAT BRONZE, if you paint it gloss you will be looking at it in the windshield from now on (glare). My painter used body color and wet sanded it until all the gloss was gone. Your painter may have a different way to do it but he will understand the concept.

Re: 1972 cheyenne super paint code question

I believe the 'med bronze' paint color code will be 3 digits '462' maybe or '146'. The extra digits denote the the white fleetsides. I'm sure someone will post an image of the color chip page.

The trucks I've had the dash between the pad and the base of the windshield painted corresponding to the dash pad color. i.e. black dash pad had black paint, saddle pad had tan/saddle paint. Most will say do what you want but regardless of color, it should also be a flat sheen to prevent glare.

My K5 is med bronze. It will grow on you. I wanted a blue K5 when i was looking and couldn't pass on this one. now I love it. I recommend the exact color if it is truly otherwise a clean stock truck. It will hold it's value better. A custom color would be screwing it up (especially a Super) - but that's just my opinion. It's your truck, do what you want.

Its got tilt steering.I hear all trucks with tilt steering came with black dash pads. Thats what mine came with. I think i will leave it black if that is true.

Re: 1972 cheyenne super paint code question

Terry, sounds like it's going to be a nice lookin truck. Your paint code is 462. 462 is a two-tone code. 462 breaks down by chart, to code 522 Bronze and code 521 white. So the two paint codes for your truck that the bodyshop will need are 522 and 521. Any good paint store can figure that out from the 462 paint code.

Re: 1972 cheyenne super paint code question

OK, yea my K5 lists Medium Bronze on the SPID as 152210 so bruceman is the man. I spoke too soon.

My K5 also has tilt (always a black column and wheel) with saddle interior. My dash pad, defroster vents, and paint on the dash is saddle.

Re: 1972 cheyenne super paint code question

Bruceman do you know where paint line ends inside the door for the white paint? I meant to take photos but did not get back in time. I know the area around the window is all white. But how far in does white come in on the center white two tone?

Stomper is the paint on your dash matt/flat or gloss? Between the pad and windshild.

This is by far the most common factory paint line. The center stripe is done the same way.

Thanks sameyrasmea 72. I have photos of my truck cd. How do i post them here. It looks like the paint wraps around about 3/8 of a inch. So it is the same on door and door post?

Re: 1972 cheyenne super paint code question

You bet. I Will have more soon. Stopped by the shop this afternoon. They were block sanding it for the third time. It looks so smooth. I have had the truck for over ten years.Used it for camping and hauling my dirt bike up north. It has always been kind of rough. Dont know what i am going to use it for after its done.
