?? 12 bolt rear with posi & 3.73 gears donor??
Hey guys, I was thinking about putting 3.73 gears and posi trac into my 72 LWB C-10. It’s got 12 bolt and 700r. Instead of buying these new gears and a posi, I wanted to see if I can find a donor truck already with 12 bolt, gears and posi at salvage yards. They are $150 if you pull off, not bad, if can find. What GM makes and models and years should I be looking for? Will I run into any problems fitting? Has anyone ever done? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

Look for the 70 model vans people forget about them they come 12 bolt also thats what i Got my posi setup out of. $60 for posi unit and 373 gears. Make sure you get the shims also and remember which side the are on make install whole lot easier.

cool vans had them.., even 4.10 or 4.11 will work too, wonder what late models had them too? Im willing to do some slight modifications if it will get me a whole updated rear

no other suggestions.... other than shell out a $1000 for parts and labor, or buy another truck that already has them...

The last posi unit I got was off a junkyard 68 C10. It was a 12 bolt eaton, and they let me have it for $15, if I remember correctly. I just check the SPID on all the trucks and vans I come across, and if it came with posi it'll list it as it wasn't base model equipment.
If it's still there, I yank it out, take it home a drop it into a bucket of used motor oil till I want to do something with it later. |
