Mirror holes

Help please. Can anyone tell me what this 'rivet'on my door is for? I am guessing that it is some sort of alignment for the mirrors? I'm trying to figure out what kind of mirrors to go with since the PO had put some super cheesy mirrors on the truck that didn't even allow the wind wings to open. I'm thinking of going with either the below eyeline mirrors in stainless if anyone has them, or Ford style truck mirrors. I just like the size/durability of bigger mirrors, especially on 4x4 trucks.

Like your idea of going with the bigger stainless mirrors Ryanmctee. My K20 originally had white below eye-line mirrors and I replaced them with LMC stainless mirrors that I modified to fit the stock holes. Before and after pics below.

I ordered both tripod types of stainless mirrors from LMC and found that one size had support legs that were too short and than other type had support legs that were too long. I ended taking the long support legs and cutting the top off in a vise and then flattening the ends and folding them over and drilling a hole through them to bolt the mirror support tube to. It is hard to tell they are modified.

^^^ Great job of making the new mirrors fit. Never woulda guessed you altered them. I wish I had those on mine.

That plugged hole was needed for the stock sport mirrors. I suspect that the aftermarket mirrors hand a smaller base that did not cover up all 3 original holes so the plugged the one that didnot get covered up with the new mirror base.

Wow, I never would have guessed that. I'm all for making something work, but that plug sits about 3/16" taller than the door skin. Can anyone say Mickey-Mouse?? I guess it will be more time with the welder filling holes.... Thanks for the help. 72Kay20 your mirrors look great. I think I will go the same route with the LMC mirrors, just the shorter brackets that sit above the top door molding. Thanks again for everyone's help. The LMC mirrors I bought didn't work well for me. They would shake loose at highway speeds. The problem is the male end of the 90 degree elbow seperates from the stainless and makes it impossible to tighten. I went with OEM tripod and 90 degree elbow and used the stainless mirrors from LMC, they work perfect now.

Landsurvey, man o man what a great looking truck. Your truck and mine will be pretty similar when mine is finished. You have captured the 'classic' look about as well as anyone I've seen. Great info on the vibration problem you've encountered. That's exactly what I'm looking to pass on. Where did you find the oem brackets for the mirrors?

Just to clarify the 'rivet' it was actually a chrome plug, siliconed into the door. The quality just doesn't stop..... Got the holes welded up and filled. On to new mirrors!

You will never cease to be amazed at the ingenuity(retardation) of previous owners. Mine just had bolts tightened down in the holes. At least they were easy to remove.

Got to second the props on Landsurvey's truck. Very nice looking rig!

It is even worse when you were the only owner and you say, "What the heck was I thinking?" Although there was no Truck Forum back then, and I am still learning.
