dust out of my heater/ac vents wtf

ok,i live on the corner of dirt road and an asphalt road so it can tend to get a tad dusty here and there.

but everytime i go to get in my truck and i turn the vent fan on,loads of dust flies out of the vents,all of them at me.

how the heck is this getting in? and how can i seal this off?

obviousl it must be seeping in somewhere,which i imagine can let hot air in during the summer months?

All I can say is learn to live with it, or you have to modify your ventsystem. Remember there is no fancy particle filters and stuff on these old trucks.The air is sucked directly from the outside trough the went doors, nothing really stops dust from geting in to the system.

i took my heater blower out a few weeks ago and there was enough dirt in in there to fill a shot glass and i live in a very non dusty area. maybe you could make a filter for the inlet, something easy to remove adn clean/replace. or you could lay a towel or something over it

Where exactly does the system get the air from? Sorrybif that's a dumb question. Idk where the main source of air inlet for it is? And I wonder if pantyhose would filter the dust? I can figure something out I think.

dont feel bad when i first got my truck pieces of foam flew up out of the vents like crazy im still finding pieces of that.......

Ha, that's kinda funny. Anyways if you think about what all has been modified, designed, and rebuilt on this forum, I think with every member of this forum we could create the ultimate Chevy truck in under a year. But anyways I agree with everyone else, I would fabricate some filtration system.

Haha, mine did that too. Actually I think it came from the blend door? and thats why I have weak heat now.

Everything is fairly sealed up in the heater box mounted to the firewall, so maybe you have just ambient dust settling down through the defroster vents. I assume you have A/C. If not, you should get it - like new Vintage Air system. I get dust in Tucson when I fire up the A/C after not using it for a month or so, but then it goes away. It is not that hard to disassemble the ductwork under the dash, just a PITA to put it back together. I use aluminum tape (like HVAC contractors use) to seal the joints after reassembly. I would start with cleaning out the ductwork, then remove the heater box and look for excessive dust - install new door weatherstripping from the hardware store.
