Pics Of Exhaust on 60-62 with Torsion Bars

Does anybody with a 60-62 have any detailed pics of how their exhaust was run? I'm trying to figure it out on my 62 right now but it looks like the torsion bars and x member are gonna create problems. Thanks

Re: Pics Of Exhaust on 60-62 with Torsion Bars

These terrible pictures are the best I can offer. All but the first two photos were taken about 15 years after installation so they were old and tired by this time. The torsion bar suspension was long gone, but these pipes were installed when it was still in place. The engine is a 350 SBC, and the truck is a 1960 short bed step side. The pictures jump around from front to back and side to side, so I’ve tried to sequence them to make the most sense. Everything was run as close to the centerline as practical from the rear T-Bar crossmember to the mufflers. This may not be the optimal layout but it worked without any rattles for many years before it was replaced with a really nice system:

The first two photos show the exhaust pipes up front were mounted inboard of the torsion bars:

These pics show the pipes after the torsion bar suspension was removed. They run parallel to the frame then pinch in just ahead of the torsion bar rear crossmember, nearly touching:

This picture is missing the T-Bar crossmember. All of these shots were taken just before the new exhaust system was installed, which is why the T Bar crossmember was removed.

Here is a close up looking forward just behind the T Bar crossmember:

And this is with the camera pulled back a bit for a wider view:

And these last two show the back end of the exhaust:

What kind of manifolds did you use with the tbars Markeb01? If they were headers what brand/pn#? By the way, that slave cylinder bracket is slick. I was wondering how to get rid of the iron b-housing on my 61 and still keep the hydraulic clutch. Thanks, Bo

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics Markeb, thats what I'm looking for. I was thinking I might have to go outside the framerails, but the way yours was set up keeps the exhaust tucked up under the truck alot better.

The manifolds are standard ram horn manifolds. The one on the driver side angles to the rear, but one that points straight down would probably work just as well. The first post in the following thread shows the same type manifolds I have:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...haust+manifold

Post #2 on the following thread shows how I did the hydraulic clutch when I swapped back to a manual 4 speed:

The slave cylinder I have is an earlier design, but I'm sure the current production version works just as well. Here's what my earlier model looks like:

1bad62pro/street: Are those the same headers you were running when you had the torsion bar suspension?

Nah,

Actually the ones I had on there is still hanging in the shop.
I had a screaming 283CSB block at the time in her and lowered in the front as far as she would go.

The ones I have on there now are for a 1970 Chevrolet Corvette.
They are 1970 Chevrolet Corvette Hooker Competition Headers.

pics from my Suburban's underbelly; duals on a 305 V-6 and AeroChambers and x-pipe; now if I can just get the underside as clean as the exhaust.

I just noticed your suggestions today. Your thoughts are actually pretty close to where I was headed before health issues and early retirement killed the frivolous fun budget. I was working towards twin carbs poking through the hood as shown in my pathetic photoshop attempt:

My picture editing abilities aren’t good enough to demonstrate, but I also wanted to do tubs big enough to accommodate a pair of 10.00-15 Radir pie crust slicks. Once the inner fenders were removed I planned to add fenderwell headers. If I did anything else to the front suspension it would have been to install a straight axle. The only unanswered question was front suspension height – down for prostreet or up for gasser. Once I win the lottery I’ll have to get more serious about deciding!

Re: Pics Of Exhaust on 60-62 with Torsion Bars

I heard that, and sorry to hear about your health issues markeb01.

The economy and job security delayed my, "Go All Out Pro/Street Plans."

So I went Nostalgia Pro/Street... Still not happy. Like the engine.
I kinda wanted something old school like HILBORN Fuel Injection system or Stromberg-Style fuel injection system.

Now I always loved the Gasser cars and Trucks.
I would love to do one on another truck!

And I like what Stacey did on his show Gearz
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL22E862DD25623E9D

Been thinking about changing my exhaust.
I want exhaust cut outs on my truck.
I'm going to take some measurements and see if this will work on my truck. But @ $459.99

Doug's Headers D380-B - Doug's Corvette Sidemount Header Systems
http://www.jegs.com/i/Doug%26%23039%...380-B/10002/-1

Hooker Headers 11190 - Hooker Headers Exhaust Cut-A-Ways
http://www.jegs.com/i/Hooker-Headers...ductId=1425376

http://www.jegs.com/c/Exhaust-Header...11529/10002/-1

And I was looking at this as well....
Hedman Husler 65855 - Hedman S10 Small Block Chevy Headers
But @ $619.99

http://www.jegs.com/i/Hedman-Husler/...rentProductId=

Just don't know how Gasser Fenderwell Dump Style Headers would look as far as Pro/Street
