454 Swap

Im highly consitering converting my 6.2 to 454 gazzer because plans are changing for its use, It was going to be a dayli driver, but since i have gotten 2 other cars that i enjoy for that duty im going to use it to mostly hauling trailers. so i fuel economy aint a issus anymore

Sender unit? mine has 2 Feed and return so im thinking i might get away with using those from my diesel set up?

Motor mounts they should be the same from a 6.2 to a bigblock right?

Radiator? mine is a Huge 4 core diesel rad, that should be plenty for a bigblock right?

Clutch and SM456 bell housing are those the same?

Tonight mine pulled a few cars out of snowbanks, and is sitting in my driveway, icicles on the grille, wheels just white cakes of snow, buried up to the lug nuts in powder, straps and chains wrapped around the bumpers, the outline of the wipers clear in 4 inches of snow on the windshield... A tired warrior of the 1980s in a world of low profile tires, front wheel drive, and plastic bumpers, where people stay in their houses until snowplows move the offending substance from their paths, too helpless to travel without AAA and chains and salt, clearing their windows with longhandled brushes while gently stepping around in the snow trying to stay nice and dry.

Re: 454 Swap

The motor mounts are the same, I would think the radiator would be more than enough...I had a big block burb and it's radiator was smaller than the one in my diesel burb. You will have to plug the ports for the engine oil cooler. IIRC the diesel has a 12" clutch, I'm not sure if that will bolt up to your 454 flywheel. The bellhousing will bolt up. I'm not sure about the fuel lines...my burb and my shortbed have a supply and return on the frame and I haven't seen a dual supply set up.

Re: 454 Swap

A couple pics of BB swaps for 6.2's.

I used a Carter CRT 4530 mechanical fuel pump on my conversion.

Sending unit should be fine. Seems that some mechanical pumps had return lines and some didnt. My 454 out of my crew cab had a return line

Yes

That will be enough for the BB. The diesels use a bigger radiator than the BB so it will be enough.

I put a BB clutch on my 6.2 so I am sure that you can put the clutch off the 6.2 onto the BB. The bell housing pattern is the same between the 250/350/454/6.2
