1962 front parking light trouble

The driver side 1157 bulb will not blink if the hood is in the down position, once i raise it approx. a foot it will start blinking???? The indicator in dash also doesn't blink at same time but only when i hit the passeger side like im turning right. But the indicator will blink when i hit the driver side even though the front blinker doesn't work. Hopefully yall understood what i am trying to get accross.

What are they doing when in the park light position ( one pull out from dash)? Sounds to me like a short in the wiring somewhere. Im guessing a brake in the front lamp harness.

It does the same thing in park position. I was thinging it maybe the harness.

I had similar problems with my right blinker/park lamp. I recently purchased and installed a new harness and it works great now.

$29.95 from Classic Truck Parts. Installed in minutes and looks just like the factory. Money well spent!

I'd try connecting a temporary ground wire directly from the battery to either the lamp housing or the ground side of the bulb socket (depending on if the ground is provided by a separate wire in the harness, or through the hood itself). Then raise and lower the hood to see if the problem has gone away. This will isolate whether the problem is a break in the power source, or simply a bad ground.

It has a good ground. It is self grounding when in its place or the light would not light up at all.

I had alot of the same problems with my 62 ... I keep chasing my tail around .. I would fix one thing then I would have another problem , do it again , another problem .. I went ahead and purchased a front new light harness , new signal switch on the lower part of the steering column and installed them , new bulbs as well ... Pulled steering wheel of and also made sure the cast turn signal was in good shape , pivot lubed and all was in tact , screws tightened ... After all this , all works great ... Hope this Helps !!! Sounds like alot , but I got tired of wasteing hour after hour chasing something new ...

I did this too and it solved the issues I had also.
