Are those cattle guards rare? I had one that looked exactly like yours on my truck when I bought it, but took it off cuz I couldn't hardly reach the hood latch. I just haven't seen them on very many trucks. Was this a dealer option or did certain trucks only get them or what?

The one that I have is actually off a '73 and up. The original style grille guard was so hard to find when we restored it that we ended up making one of these fit. I know that there are more people out there that know more than me about them but from what I know it was a dealer option. Especially in rural southwest Kansas, alot of these pickups had them put on before they got brought home from the dealer. I've hit many a cow in the rear with this style with no damage to the front of the pickup
As for opening the hood...yeah it makes it a real bear to pop the latch..I've skinned my nuckles more than once!!
