IM having a weird electrical issue and i think i may have figured it out.

How many ground locations are there? I currently have my battery going to the block, then the frame grounded to the cab. THATS IT!!!! That isnt enough is it???

its a 71 chevy stepside. Can someone tell me what i should ground???

Re: Diagram for factory ground locations?

You need the engine grounded to the cab (rear of block to firewall), also there is a ground from the bed to the frame and you could run one from the core support to the frame.

I think most guys on here will tell you that you can never have enough grounds.

In addition to those already mentioned, I added the following to my truck:
1. From the engine block (where the negative battery cable was tied in) directly to the frame.
2. From the negative battery terminal to the sheet metal above the passenger inner fender.
3. From negative battery terminal to core support.
4. I also ran a special ground from the block/negative battery cable tie-in directly into the cab under the dash. I use this one to ground random stuff in the cab (like the wiper motor, etc.) so I know that I'm tying into a known good ground.

Also, make sure you're using big cables for the ground straps and that every connection is clean, bright, and tight. Little 10 or 12 guage wires aren't going to do the job.

My truck is mostly rust and bondo and so far (knock on wood!) I haven't had any electrical issues.

Hope that helps.

Re: Diagram for factory ground locations?

grounding is not just a case of a few random ground wires// every light bulb gauge motor horn EVERYTHING needs to b grounded to work

electricity is a 2pole system hot and ground// electric out from the battery and electric back into the battery// positive negitive
