Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
Aircraft Spruce is local to me.....sorry. MSC and Grainger both carry it as well, but here again, they have retail stores that are fairly close to my location. Gunsmithing suppliers, aircraft maintenance suppliers, machine tool suppliers, etc. are all good possibilities to check in your area.
Privately-owned Napa stores, or other non-corporate-owned auto parts stores in some areas carry it as well. I hope that helps.

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
The local NAPA store carries Kroil. I've not found it to be that superior to PB Blaster. But, I've also got a torch and not a whole lot of patience.

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
PB Blaster, Deep Kreep, Kroil work good. Zep Oil is by far my favorite though. It kind of hard to find.

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
On nuts and bolts that are really rusty, heat the nut to the warm red glow and use some wax to quench - it'll shock it loose like water and lube the threads to back it off. And if it ain't broke, get a bigger hammer!

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
Kroil hands down.
I cant buy it local anywhere. I just order it from the maker. Expensive. But worth much more than it costs.

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
I've tried most of these. I didn't know about atf/acetone until recently. It works the best and the cost is low.

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
My neighbor uses Seafoam Deep Creep and says it works better than PB Blaster or anything. Its expensive though. About $10 a can I think.

Anyone ever use S'ok? Came in a green can.
We used to use that back in the day, haven't seen it in a long time though. |

I like the CRC penetrating oil. I think it's caller Knocker Loose or something silly like that.

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
All good info but...When loosening the bolts do yourself a favor and clean off the exposed threads. Tighten the nut and clean some more. Wedging that crud between the nut and bolt can almost always guarantee a broken bolt.

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
I like Kroil.
For you folks that shoot, Kroil is an excellent bore cleaner when you use molly coated bullets. It gets under the carbon in the barrel and lifts it off. A little off subject but maybe it will be of interest to some of you. |

And what do you use to apply it? Is the mixture thick enough that you have to use an oilcan of some sort or can you put it in a spray bottle and squirt it on? Thanks for the help, guys!

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
I poured approximately equal quantities of atf and acetone into a small paper cup and then poured it on the part. You could use a qtip or maybe fill a small spray bottle to get it into awkward spaces. It penetrates like mad that's what I liked.

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
I got a tip from an employee at 'Big Yellow' of a test they ran on three penetrating oils and a mix.I believe this was WD40,Kroil,and one I can't remember. The mix was one part Acetone, one part automatic trans fluid. This 50/50 mix beat them all.I have no experience with this so if anyone gives it a go or if I get a chance, post up

Re: Best rust/frozen bolt fixer concoction
20 years of working on industrial pumps for a living, I have been through hundreds of cases of the stuff. Works great, and smells good too! You have to get it at a bulk oil dist. though.
