292 head question....
A 292 will work on 230 and 250, but is there any difference in valve chamber?
I just picked one up that looks to have been freshened up fairly resently (springs, pushrods and overall just plain clean looking). I'm just asking, because I read somewhere that a certain combo will raise the compression some. |

Re: 292 head question....
They are the same. The 292 has tougher valves with rotaters on the ex. valves.

Re: 292 head question....
To get a bit more compression use a head off a 194. Raises it about .5.

Re: 292 head question....
That used to be the hot lick for 230 and 250 engines. When I had the 194 in my 48 that I bought it with guys would tell me that the head was worth more by it's self than the whole engine was.

Re: 292 head question....
Yes. The exhaust are 3/8" valve stem instead of 11/16" if memory serves. Just like the small block truck heads.

Re: 292 head question....
Thats great news....thank you everyone. When I spotted the valve cover (script chevrolet), I thought " that engine looks really clean....I have to get that head". Then I saw what is my first "working" heatriser...spring looks brand new. I got them all then started wondering about the head working....I appreciate the info.
