what started your c10 addiction?

I don't really have a specific instance, that I can recall. I've been working on old cars and trucks for a long time...bought my first car when I was 12, first motorcycle when I was 13. Worked on several Tri-Fives, then I got into Novas. Went to Chevelles next, owned a couple of Corvettes. But, for some reason I always come back to the '67-'72 Trucks. I like the trucks, but I'm also a Blazer and Suburban fan. As you can see from my signature block, I have a '72 1-Ton, '72 K5 Blazer, '72 (Looks-like-a-Chevy) GMC, and a '70 Chevy LWB. Going to sell off at least two of them, but there'll be more in the driveway, I'm sure. Gotta' love them Bowties!

In 1970 I was 11 years old and my dad bought a 70 3/4 ton. There were a total of four of these trucks on our street. I used to wash& wax all of them for $5.00 each! Lets see thats $20.00 for 8 hours of work not bad! I really think thats where this all started for me. I just loved the lines and how they smelled (when new} most had campers on them. My dads was the only work truck on the street. So, I have been playing with these trucks for 42 years! I drive one of my trucks to my shop everyday and the feeling of the simple act of driving one of these trucks always makes my day! cheers, Pat

It is! The truck in my avatar is the truck shown here. It's 5.3 was pulled from a low-mileage 2003 Tahoe and it has a 4L60E. The 5.3 has had some head and valve train work, cam change, a set of headers, and some noisy-a$$ Spintechs. It's about 400 horsepower and it's a lot of fun to drive and gets a lot of attention. Since the early pictures, I've pulled the side moulding off of the truck because I just don't like that style of trim. The plan is to switch over to '68 style body side moulding. don

I'm not sure what year my dad's was but it was a blue short step side 2wd gmc. I loved that truck even though it was a step side lol. I'm not a big fan of the step side look but if that truck didn't get wrecked I would love to have it just for the memories.

My addiction started at 8 when I drove for the first time. My older sister would drive my dad's 70 C20 on our farm occasionally then one day she told me to drive- didn't have to ask twice. I remember her laughing at me as I would stretch out to reach the gas pedal & then pop back up to see where I was going (thankfully it was a automatic). I do remember hating the fact that I couldn't hardly stop it or turn it (no P/S or P/B). I really think I was hooked from that point on & I've always owned a 71 or 72 since 1993 (and will until I die).

thanks man, if only i had the space and money, dont have either and i just made a deal on a 68 longbed what was i thinking i do not know. but my gun collection is one shotgun shy, and my truck population went from a dodge ram and a 70 swb to now a 68 longbed too.

Awesome ya my grandpa is a cattle farmer and during hay season I always got to drive the old 64 c10 started around age 10

The '68 was on the farm a few years before me, but I have some great memories of it growing up.


Then when I was 10 my Grandpa taught me to drive during the spring. That summer he gave me the '68 to work on and drive around the farm, I had a knack for fixing things. So we hauled it out of the trees.



I never had enough money and life always seemed to get in the way. My grandpa is gone now but I still have the '68 and I will never get rid of it. This year it's finally coming home from the farm for some TLC.

Back in the early 70's my family moved to a neighborhood that the typical vehicle was an Olds, Buick or Mercury. We were the rednecks; we moved in with a lot of our stuff in a stock trailer pulled by a 64 c10. By the mid 70s all 3 of my older brothers and my dad were driving these trucks. My dad's was 67 with a 250 that we eventually converted to 283. One was a 70 GMC, another was a 69 short step and the other was a 69 CST long bed. The neighbors were horrified to see 4 pickups in the driveway. Two of my brothers were attending high school at the time and their two trucks were the only ones in the entire parking lot. All of the trucks except my dad's were running slotted mags at one point or another and lots of loud exhaust, custom paint (sprayed in our driveway) and performance mods. I grew up thinking that these were what any real man would drive.

Before I could get a truck I scored a 442 convertible and stayed distracted with them for a while. I was actually 30 years old before I scored my 67 step side.

This is a spitting image of the truck that got me into 67-72s. I was a 12-13 year old kid and was working in the tobacco fields. My uncle had a 1968 GMC BRIGHT ORANGE! It had been a city truck till it was retired in the 80s. He bought it for scrap price and put it to use on the farm....

My biggest memory of that truck was when the old farmall got stuck and Dad was across the farm in the 4x4 John Deer. So Uncle Dwayne sent me to get the 68. He looped a chain around the front bumper and told me to back up slowly. I did and off came the bumper with some front fender attached. I will never forget how sad that made me that the old truck was getting abused so badly..

During my teen and early 20s years, the 67-72 class trucks were "out of my price range" or so i thought. I had multiple square body 4x4s and el caminos, but finally this last year at 29, i got my first 67-72. I dont know if i will always have this truck...But i will always have a 67-72 if life permits me...


I am actually kind of glad i didnt have one in my earlier years, cause i probably would have destroyed it like i did the square bodies. Course they were 4x4 beast and im a farm boy...nuff said!

LOL.....when I first glanced at this pic it reminded me of that show "dumbest stuff on wheels"!! That's great. That's how we used to have fun before cable with 1,345 channels and video games!

My father-in-law had a 67 & I always liked it. The family let me buy it when he had almost passed away. I've been in love ever since.

growing up, I had a thing for the 73-87 stepside, and the K5 Blazer. I loved cars in general growing up as a kid, so it was one that was on my list of domestic cars to get (I had a list for exotics, muscle cars and trucks). Ironically, I used to see DMC from the vintage hip-hop group, Run-DMC, drive a black K5 blazer pretty much on a daily basis.

through the years, I have grown more and more away from my European fleet of cars, and into the domestic muscle - Chevelles, Camaros, Firebirds, and C10s. The 67-72 C10s just have a real soft spot in my heart, and I think you will see me with 3 or 4 more (I need a c10 blazer and suburban next), and I will be ok for a moment. #chevyrunsdeep

When I was about 12, a guy who worked for my Dad had a '71 Chevy and thought it was a great looking truck with that eggcrate grill....always liked it.
Flash forward 15+ years (late 80's), I was driving an 86' CJ7 Jeep and was getting a little tired of its rough ride and poor driving manners, etc.
Me and some friends were crossing through a parking lot on our way to a concert and their was a beautiful, original blue/white '72 Chevy...and I took a complete time out to check it out. Well months later (by chance) it came up for sale, I immediately spotted it and it was mine.
Then, sadly...it was a stolen and I never saw it again.
BUT....I found its literal twin in condition, history, colour, options, etc in California last year.
Well....ba-da-bing....its mine and I'm back in the saddle and still loving these trucks.

Haha, those were good times. We used an old Dodge truck hood tied to the back bumper! Could be painful when you hit a bump! Awesome in snow though!

panel trucks are hard to find in oz and my neighrbours brother had a 69 stepside(also hard to find in oz) fell in love with that too.

so now 30 yrs on and i got my 69 stepside and i still would like a panel truck as well

I grew up here in Western NY, and my Dad was the truck Manager at O'Connor Chevrolet in Rochester from 1970-1974. His "demo" vehicles included a 1970 ElCamino with a 454, 1974 Chevy 4x4 shortbox in white. So, I have always loved chevrolet trucks. But in 1986, my brother bought a black 1972 Chevy c-10 with a 350 4 bolt main shortbox and a 4 speed. That thing would haul a#%. He wrecked it and I remember he sold the tach dash out of it for $200. The 72 is my favorite with a 67 being #2.
