Dual tanks switch plate?

I have a '72 Sierra Grande with dual tanks and the lever to switch them is mounted between the driver's rocker and the seat on the floor pan.
There is a plastic plate to indicate which position the lever is in, is this a factory item and is it available?

Many thanks!

Mine was made of metal. Wish I didn't throw it away. I would have given it to you.

Re: Dual tank switch plate

Not factory.... most were dealer-installed aftermarket. Travel Tanks was one of the more popular ones, at least on the west coast. That's what I have and it has a plastic indicator plate.

Mine has a 'pointer' on the handle, at the short end opposite from where you grasp it to turn. Pointed end towards the rear selects the main tank (behind the seat)... point to the right selects right tank and point to the left selects left tank.

That sounds like mine but it listed on the option list,it also has a switch on the dash to check to fuel in each tank.

Yours is obviously a factory option, and not what I was picturing by your description.

Besides the floor-mounted valve to select the tank, mine has a 3-way toggle switch under the dash for fuel gauge selection.

Re: Dual tank switch plate

That looks like my switch but there is a plastic plate that is on the carpet that indicates which tank.

One of the seals in the lever went and the fuel wicked up the shaft and melted the plate.

Re: Dual tank switch plate

I bought a replacement at a local oriellys auto parts store but I had tried 4 other stores before I found someone that understood what I was looking for they called it some kind of valve but it didn't have any indicator plate with it, and my truck just has the 2 tanks so if you flipped it the wrong way if would just cut the fuel off

Re: Dual tanks switch plate?

My 72 GMC K2500 has the exact same plate and mine has a factory auxilary tank with a filler neck in the beside right in-line with the cab tank style line. I have never seen them available in the aftermarke. I would assume the only option would be to restore it as best you can.

Re: Dual tanks switch plate?

Look for branding. I can't say there -wasn't- a factory option, but all the ones that I've ever seen, including mine, were dealer options.

So far as I know the factory option was for a single aux tank, but others will chime in...

Not an option , it is dissolved!

I might make one out of brass, engrave the faunt and have it chrome plated...or maybe do one in stainless.

Re: Dual tank switch plate

sideways-Why not contact board member Teeitup or others who post parts for sale. Teeitup is always parting trucks as well as others and I'm sure they come across these pieces all the time. Good luck.
