Changing Starter Help.

Hey guys,
Bad news. After scouts tonight my starter crapped out on me. Won't even turn over. Jumped it off a friends truck, nothing. This happened a couple of days ago and I thought my alternator died because I was able to jump and start so the alternator was replaced.

Now I have to leave my truck in a parking lot till tomorrow. Step-dad is going to pick up a starter for me so we can replace it but I have no idea how.

Can anyone tell (or post pics) of how to change one?

Thanks...

Re: Changing Starter Help.

To get it to start to get it home smack it with a hammer. Really crank on it, I guarantee it will start. Other than that its just a couple 9/16's bolts holding the starter on as well as the connections on the terminal. Shimming might be required, I am learning about that right now.

Disconnect your battery first.

dont know if you have checked this or not, but check the battery wire connection at the starter. i had similar situation once, cold and at night, so i got permission to leave truck gas station parking lot. next morning took battery & alt. to get checked (both ok). so when crawling under the truck to "TAP" on the starter, i noticed the battery wire to the starter was loose. tightened the nut...and the parking lot repair finished and down the road i went!! FROZEN BUTT and $0 repair bill.......(almost) priceless!!!!

Re: Changing Starter Help.

up here heat/salt will bake/corrode,green the wires down there
if you can get the cap off the connections sometimes that big batt post can be turned inside and is ok and reused, sometimes replaced is better tho

make sure power is good before replacing
