Pictures of white heat embossed seat stripe on a 66 CST seat for LT1 Burb.

This fawn colored 8" panel has a white stripe vinyl piece heat embossed onto the fawn vinyl. Gm also put an extra embossing line into the fawn to dress it up. With 46 years the two original seats I have the white embossing has let lose some as you can see in the pictures. Still one would be very good survivor quality as it came out of a shedded 38k mile 66 CST longbox C10. Both upper and lower cloth inserts had a tear in the fabric so I will have to replace with reproduced cloth.

Notice the last picture of the seat bottom that has the assembly line # 45 that matches the truck.

That makes sense now, my seat is a 65 and does not have the embossing. I called SMS and they are refunding the money, I do have enough for 10 seats now.

I have the same upholstery on my spare seat, and it is embossed the same way. All of the Custom seats I have ever seen were this same style.

LT1 Burb: Did SMS send you the wrong material?

Does anyone know of a company that can heat seal (emboss) the fawn and cream panels together? I know they could be sewn together but that wouldn't be "correct". The headliner in my '64 VW has the same kind of heat seams but nobody reproduced those correctly either (the repro's are all stitched). Is this a lost art that nobody does anymore? Dad has been into upholstery for 30+ years and doesn't know of anyone that does it.

SMS said they build that 8" bolster panel (like their door panel process) and heat emboss the white vinyl onto the fawn vinyl and the extra heat seam line to match the original. I ordered two of them on Friday and they said 6 weeks to make the panel and that it had to be shipped flat so not to separate the embossing. Likewise when it is sewn into place it will be pulled taunt to keep it flat. I have been impressed with their quality in materials in the past and it's the closest thing to factory I've seen anywhere.

I will have to go to my storage locker and look at the seat but it is a bit different, I can't tell for sure if it is embossed or not.

It looks sewed to me and I didn't realize you were restoring a 65. We have the fawn vinyl in common though!
