Leon, sounds like a good idea to me, The General should have made an access cover from the factory back in the day. I had to drop the tank in a
'91 4x4 Burb I owned several years ago and thought about doing the same thing using a scarp piece of bed floor for a plate covered by the carpet. Never got to it and sold the Burb but I think it's a great idea for someone keeping a Suburban for any length of time especially with the newer in-tank fuel pumps and senders.
