'69-'72 chevy fender emblems??

Where were the engine size emblems located on those years? The reason I am asking is I found a fender for my '71 and it had both the model and engine size in the rear of the fender with nothing up front under the marker light. I am wondering if that is correct for mine or do I need to weld up the engine holes in the rear and make them up front. Thanks

Re: '69-'72 chevy fender emblems??

Depends on what year you need? 69-70 had the model and engine size towards the rear of the fender if it had an optional engine. It could also have said custom and deluxe, or cheyenne and super in that spot. 68-70 had 4 wheel drive emblems under the marker light on 4x4, and 71-72 had the engine badge under the marker light if it had an optional engine. Hope this makes sense...

Re: '69-'72 chevy fender emblems??

It sounds like the fender you have is a 69/70. That's when the engine badge went under the fender badge to the rear of the fender. In '71,when Chevy came out with the Custom Deluxe and Cheyenne Super, that spot was reserved for "Deluxe" and "Super",so the engine designate moved to under the side marker on 71/72s.

Re: '69-'72 chevy fender emblems??

So if I understand correctly I can use those holes in the rear for my Cheyenne and Super emblem and drill the ones in front for the engine size. That combo should be right for my '71?

Yes,but I think the engine badge holes may not be exactly the same as the engine badge holes in that location. But,yes,in 71/72 the engine badge goes under the side marker light.

Re: '69-'72 chevy fender emblems??

Thanks for all the help so far. I do have a question about the holes in the rear of fender for the SUPER that goes under Cheyenne. Can someone tell me how far apart the holes are and how far down they should be from the Cheyenne holes? Thanks again.

Re: '69-'72 chevy fender emblems??

Thanks Special K for the cool pic. That really does help. The only thing I am still questioning is the distance between the upper and lower set of holes in the rear. That is the only measurement that is missing unless I am just not seeing it. It looks to be about an inch or so but don't know for sure. Thanks

Re: '69-'72 chevy fender emblems??

You're right. That measurement is not given. And,I just sold my Custom Deluxe and don't have any fenders to measure. Maybe another member could hop in and help. It should be easy enough to do.

EDIT: Here is a picture I have from my old Highlander that may help. The Super emblems go in the same place. IIRC,on both sides the lower emblem is to the rear. I'd get another opinion on that,though...

Re: '69-'72 chevy fender emblems??

Special K, you are saying that on the drivers side the super or deluxe emblem would go under the 20 or the rear of the custom 20 emblem. I have seen pictures of trucks with the 'super' centered and directly under the cheyenne on both sides though. I have one more question, did GM use the same hole spacing for all the upper emblems? Will a set of custom 10 emblem holes work with cheyenne 10 emblems? I am assuming they will but I thought I would ask. Thanks
