Nate/Rob Need Advice : Porterbuilt and No Limit Product Mix

Hoping Nate and Rob can help out or Advise on the below:
I purchased the No Limit Panhard Kit and the Porterbuilt 2-Piece bolt in notch

Unfortunately from my initial mocking up of the setup it looks like the two pieces are going to overlap and interfere with each other

Below is what I am seeing, about a 1/2" overlap

Planning on working on it this weekend to get the stock rivets, bump stop etc off which will give me a better idea of exactly how much it will overlap but its definitely going to clear each other as is.

Now you can see from each company's instructions that they both have to locator hole in the frame (mine doesnt have this) but No limits kit uses the hole to center the bracket and in Porterbuilts you can see it covers about 1/4 of the same hole

SO I do not want to affect the strength or integrity of either piece

I'm thinking the panhard mount needs to be flush with the frame and possibly section the notch to clear the no limit bracket.

I know this wont let the notch sit flush but will it affect it that much as far as fitment elsewhere and the overall strength?

Hope the pictures make it clear whats going on and a solution can be reached

Had another idea since I've Been staring at the photos

Just hate to cut up Nates work

The lower notch holes are located farther inward so they should not be affected

But basically trim the rear of the notch and create two more holes to secure the upper notch like originally planned

and hopefully that would let the notch and panhard bracket bolt flush and clear each other

why dont you cut the porterbuilt edges off and weld the no limit bracket to it. basically cut both pieces of the porterbuilt notch to fit the no limit bracket. weld the no limit brakcet to the first piece from the porterbuilt kit.

Hmmmm......

I would try and do most of the trimming on the edge of the panhard bracket rather than the notch. I don't believe that it would make the bracket unsafe if you trimmed it back a little and re-drilled the holes further towards the back.

Is there going to be any fitment concerns on the bottom of the frame? (I am not familiar with Rob's mount).

Worst case, maybe look into trimming a little of each?

Im not thinking there will be any fitment concerns on the bottom of the frame.
Robs lower mount aligns with the factory frame rail so the notch should clear that part (going to have to get the factory bump stop bracket off and get the notch down on the frame to be sure)

You thinking something like the below? Cut the bracket to fit as long as it doesnt affect the lower mounting holes and only clearance the notch as needed.

I didnt know how much actual pressure can get on that panhard mount and if the width of that bracket was for max strength

That is what I was recommending. The rear plate does add strength to the design, but it appears that it's more intended to be a locator rather than bear a whole lot of the load. The front gusset that ties into the crossmember will do that.

I would run it by Rob, as he is the designer and manufacturer of the panhard bracket... get his blessing first, and then whip out the cut-off wheel.

Simple! Cut both brackets on an angle... That way your not loosing any bolt holes on the notch, and only the top left hole on the panhard mount. Ya can drill another hole in both and move that one bolt if ya want. Won't mess with the top side at all and or bottom of either with no strength issues

I like the drawing. It's OK to cut our bracket down, and drill two new holes. I agree with Nate, the notch needs all the strength it can get.

Rob - So Since I dont have the frame hole for locating the outer frame bracket anyway, I should just let the lower bracket locate the frame bracket for me, cut drill and be good to go?

Yep. Fit the lower mount first, finger tight. Then match up the sideplate and mark the holes.

Followed Nates advice once I got the Notch cut and in place

Marked my lines and took the cut off wheel to it

After the cut the bracket cleared the notch but had the same issue BustedTruck had with the NoLimit bracket: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=493691

The lower bracket hole would miss the frame by about a 1/4"

Both of our trucks are 6cyl frames so maybe that is the issue vs the frame the bracket was designed on

Heres the final result : Filled in the locating hole and the lower bolt hole to make it all smooth and cleaner looking, bolted it tight to the lower bracket and then marked and drilled 3 new holes
