Question What's it worth?

I think I may have found a 350 Chevy and 700R4 Tranny. So...What would my 250 L6 and 3spd column tranny be worth? The L6 supposedly has 50K on it. It runs real strong but gives a puff of white smoke on start up. I am not very savvy when it comes to engines, mechanics, etc. I am just curious to know what I might expect to offset the pain of the new purchase if I decide to make it.

Any info appreciated!

This is not a for sale ad, just a question from a newbie. THANKS!

First of all.....NICE TRUCK!

straight six and a three speed...I'd guess and say $250-$350 range.

Thanks Dan. That would offset some pain nicely. Any one else know about this stuff?

I sold the same setup out of a 69 shortwide that I transplanted a big block w/ th400 into for $150 if I remember right. May even have been $100 though. I just wanted it gone and out of my way it was complete from pan to air cleaner and ran strong. Theres my 2 cents worth.

Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks for the info on the engine and tranny. I am going to take a buddy of mine to look at this 350/700R4 combo and see if it's worthy. If so, you all may see my lil six for sale.

Also, thanks for the kind words about Ol Blue. Bought it from a little old man in the hills of Arkansas. 147,000 original miles and pretty much stock. The only mods are HEI for the sixer, wheel covers are not stock and at some point the pass side front fender and door has been replaced and both rockers have been replaced. It needs the cab corners replaced and the bed has a little rust on the inside right wall and of course the wood is pretty much gone. Other than that, it is cherry. I wish I had some place to park it and do a frame off. I want to keep the original look right down to the white walls and white bumpers. But the drive train I would like to replace and add power brakes, steering, etc. The only options that came on this plain little truck are gauges and the side spare. Here is another look.

Hey Joe! Thanks for the kind words. I have only owned the truck for about a month or two. Also, what kinds of parts do you have? I may be looking for a 4 core radiator, NOS or used in good condition. I am considering swapping my L6/3spd for a 350/700r4 and need to keep it cool. Will also be needing the tranny linkage that goes from the steering columm to the frame mount to the tranny itself.

Got any goodies I could use at a good price?

Thanks again!

Doug, I don't have any radiators right now, but I have all parts to do an auto tranny swap, crossmember and shift linkage.

Oh yeah, will it be a big deal to swap trannys to a 700R4 now and then swap my L6 for a 350 later? Or is this bass-ackwards?

Any info appreciated!
