Need Some advice!!!

Ive been saving to get back into another 67-72 swb for a few years and ive found one in decent shape needs some minor work and in my price range... Only problem he only has a bill of sale he told me why he only had a bill of sale instead apparently the guy was in Iraq when it was sold to him by the owners mom... He said all I would have to do is go to my insurance company get a surety bond then I could go get a Bonded title but wouldn't get a blue title for a year... Just looking for some advise don't know what to do.. Already not having the title is throwing up red flags... Any advice is appreciated...

here it is http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/bar/2865124839.html

Re: Need Some advice!!!

Pass.

Was his mom authorized to sell it? If not the truck may be reported stolen when the son gets back and you will be out money and your new truck. Maybe that's not even the real story. If it was that "easy" to get the title hits guy would have already done it.

There are a lot of 67-72 trucks out there, keep looking.

If you really want it I would pay about 25% of what it would be worth with a title. You are taking a huge chance, both financially and possibly legally if the po-po decide that you were the one that stole it.

Re: Need Some advice!!!

Yeah its a little fishy he said she was on the title but something with the power of attorney was not correct... Don't think I wanna go through all that hassle and it be stolen.. But I work at a auto auction and work with the DMV so i can have it checked but even if it comes up clean Im still iffy...

Re: Need Some advice!!!

Huge Red Flag!

Do yourself a favor and pass on this shady deal. Seller looking to take all finds of funky trades?

You'll lose your money, lose the truck, and end up with lawyer's fees.

Re: Need Some advice!!!

Bought a $500 truck from a guy with California plates...NO TITLE. Called California and made sure it wasn't stolen, Checked in Texas also.
Went to get a bonded title..they base the truck price on NADA plus 25%. Ended up costing me $350 in taxes because the NADA on these trucks is around $13000 average. Pretty ridiculous. Doesn't take a year just a month or so.

The way I understand it if I put a bunch of money into a $500 truck and eventually sell it the bond covers the truck in case of a bad title.

Not impossible just not a lot of fun. Figured for $500 I couldn't go wrong. Here is a pic of what I bought for $500. Big Block, A/C, P/S, P/B Rebuilt motor.

Call TXDOT and find out what the charge would be...on a $4K truck it could be $800 plus for a title. I would make him get a title for it first for that kind of money. Otherwise walk.

I'd pass too... I always go with my gut.
Plus it sounds like its going to be more work (and headaches) for you & buying a 67-72 should be a fun process.

Re: Need Some advice!!!

I agree with the others.... too many red flags as to the title. Even if the Iraq story is legit, sounds like he is stateside now so he should be able to get the title if he wants to sell it to you. Otherwise it could turn into a huge headache for you.

Re: Need Some advice!!!

Does not run does not = $4K. Steer away from questionable titles, not worth the worry to sort it out, and you could get screwed. I have been anyway. There are other fish in the sea, keep fishin.

Re: Need Some advice!!!

If you are still interested in the truck and he is in the military have him get a new POA general or specific. It free for all of us in the military. It just has to be signed by any O-4 or above or the legal officer. He can then fax or email it to his mom.

Re: Need Some advice!!!

Keep looking you can find another with good paperwork. They'll be pleanty of things to spend that money on. The title may be the very reason there willing to sell that truck.
