Smile New to this! trying to get resources and help

Hey my name is josh, I am new to attempting "restore" my truck, I am fine with light mechanics but anything beyond that, well, I can get it apart and go....crap...lol. so I am just looking for resources and help with my truck.
Its a 77 chevy short box, lowered, supposed 383 stroker, i dont believe it I think its just a 350, muncie (?) 4 sp manual, the only think wrong with it is the passenger side floor board has pretty bad cancer and a hole about 6". I am active duty military and have access to a full fledged shop for 6 bucks an hour, including a paint booth.
I hope to do make it a driver that i take out one or twice a week, and eventually put a better heart in it and do some passes.....and money is not very plentiful lol, so, all that to say...any help or suggestions would be awesome!
Thanks all,
Josh

First off, thanks for your service. I would get a good assembly manual. It will have lots of helpful info as well as pictures and exploded views. Take your time and bag and mark everything you are not 100% sure about. They are easy to work on once you get in there. And hopefully someone else there can help with the metal repair. Ask lots of questions, and post pics of this beast!

LMC & Classic Industries sells the steel cab repair panels, I'm not sure of the quality of these panels, I've never ordered them. Here's the links: http://www.classicindustries.com/search?q=floor panels&y=1977&m=truck

Josh, thanks for your service.
