Rear tank conversion

I have heard of a rear tank conversion for my 83 swb c10 ,but I don't know the specifics any body know the facts?I have seen aftermarket tanks but they are around 450 plus.tryin to avoid that,.

Well couple of options...you can spend 450, its more around 600 bucks grand total, thats the sending unit, hoses, bed filler flap, lines, etc...or you can throw in a blazer tank if you want to save about 300 bucks but work twice as hard and spend twice as much money on the rear tank conversion. Your call.

I chose the 600 dollar, 6hr worth of work no hassle and headache option.

Yeah I know all the extras add up.is the blazer tank really that hard to install

Not hard to install if you are a competent fabricator. The only fairly major issue is where to run the filler neck to (usually up through the bed floor).

Fabricator is the key word...how many of us in here are??? Go to little more expensive but headache saving route.

It looks pretty easy to me.just a lil fab work ,I found the tank online for 119.00 shipped plus the sender and I'm making a complete fuel system any way so just a matter of ascetics whether you want the aluminum or the ugly stock one.any one got pics of one installed with the bed on?

Wow that does look pretty bad .I wonder what the high dollar alum one looks like? I originally was going to do the fuel cell in the bed,the truck will definatly have a drag inspired theme so it won't be out of place but I just don't know.hmmmm

If you don't plan on shaving the gas doors, there is always another option. Its the one I took and Im pretty sure Im the only one so far. and its basically free. on my truck both the saddle tanks are in place even though it lays frame with a stock floor body drop. Just pancaked both tanks 3 inches and shortened the holding staps. then, took 3 inches out of the fuel senders. It was all labor, no parts to buy.



you can see the seams in the picture. I went this route because I new I would never shave the gas doors since I don't plan on painting the truck. So now, both my gas doors are still functional.

Just to throw the idea out there. blazer tanks are not the only way.

p.s. If you dont cut an inch of your frame like I did then you would only need to take 2 inches out.

Thats actually my truck. I am not a fan of saddle tanks and since the blazer tank swap makes the truck the same as A BLAZER, but yes I think that this looks better on my "suspension" lifted truck than the same truck with saddles.

I used a suburban tank on my ccsb project, its lowered and I'm not crazy about it hanging down. But I like it better than messing with dual tanks and filling up every 200 miles.
