New project 71

Im brand new to the forum, just bought this 71 out of a estate sale from a real collector...be bought but never sold..then died.
And he has at least 20 more c10's for sale. This truck was bought then sat in one spot (outside) since 2002. Back at that time the paint was new and was surely pretty nice. I will be bringing it home in the morning and cross my fingers after some fresh gas and a once over it will still run. I love the color combo and plan on dropping it around 4/6 with some 18's or 20's. 1971, Shortbed, 350, auto, PS,PB and coils in the rear.

On the ride home after you pay the money and you dont feel bad......you got a good deal! And I still feel pretty jazzed to have found this truck 10 mins from home.

Re: New project 71

That collection was being watched pretty closely by a lot of us on the boards starting back in December. Good to see they are actually getting some sold finally! Were they flexible with their prices? Last I'd heard they were asking about double what others thought the vehicles were worth, so I was curious if they were starting high and dealing from there...

Congrats! As long as you are happy with the deal, the price was right!

Re: New project 71

Trailerd the truck home sat morning (had not been started in 10 years) Changed the oil, flushed the tank, fresh fuel, new fuel line and filter off the pump, replaced vacume line to dist, added 1/2 gal coolant, checked tranny level.....pulled the coil wire, hooked up a fresh battery and cranked it a couple times. Had fuel at carb, plugged the coil wire back in, pumped the throttle a couple times.....fired right up. No smoke, no funny noises....BIG SMILE
Still need a alt and voltage reg as they were both missing.

Re: New project 71

Worked on the truck a little each night after work this week..
Installed new alt and power steering belts
Bought new radiator hoses
Pulled seat out for more working room in the cab
Got all the dash lights, shift indicator, heater control, interior and cargo lights working. Mostly just needed contacts cleaned.
Installed new dimmer switch, old was corroded and fell apart
All gauges except the gas gauge work, have narrowed it down to the sender. Lubed all door/hood hinges as they were a little still from sitting.

Need to get the lowereing items ordered, looking for 4.5 front and 5 or 6 rear?

Truck already has a steel cowl hood (goodmark), tank relocated to rear with fuel door added to side of bed, all new moulding but some are loose as they all seem to only have stick on clips and no bolt on?

Re: New project 71

Here are a few pics...anyone know what the gas tank is from?
And the seat seems to be way thick as you sit to tall in the truck, can anyone tell me the height of there seat?
Just a little rust n top in the footwell.
I have no history on the truck.....

Yep, Thats where I picked it. Still about a 1/2 dozen trucks there for sale and a bunch more over off brookswood.
I had looked at them last year, and was kinda hard to see all those nice at one time vehicles......what a shame.

I agree, the tank looks like a blazer tank and the gas door assembly out of an 80's GM PU
