I ordered a cargo and dome light for mt '70 when I noticed this.

Do some openings for cargo lights look like this??

Obviously the opening for the dome light is a hack job or is it?

This is the dome light that was used. Does anyone know what it's out of?

For the cargo light, I'll probably cut it to have a stock light fit. Not sure what to do about the dome light. Should I patch it and do it all over?

thats a hack job for shure
i think it could be fixed prety easy with a doner patch from another truck

Man that's a bummer, not only did they hack the truck but thy installed a hacked up lookin dome light assembly.

That's what I thought. Now I'm wondering why/how the opening for cargo light is done like that? Maybe the p/o patched it and was thinking of putting up something "fancy" there too. He did a good job shaving the stock gas filler hole and bed stake pockets. I'm surprised. Oh well, time to patch it up.

42 years old with most probably multiple owners who all added their personal touches over the years (both good and bad) and you find things like this done to all of our trucks. That is why I am always excited when I see a virtually untouched original. It is amazing to me that so many survived as have because most were used hard as trucks. You can fix that with a patch.

My stock dome light had those holes on the cab...exact same for the exterior light on my '72 Grande Sierra. Looks like the inside opening has been cut out a bit though.

How in the world did the cargo light assembly fit? They're the same from 70-72, right?

Seems I remember there was wiring which went through the hole and connected to the inside dome light wiring, and two screws into the cab to hold the inside piece of the lamp mount, then the lense was bolted to that piece. I don't remember if I sold it or not, so I can't look at it to determine how it all went together. The manual would show it I'd imagine.

What's wrong with the light? It served it's purpose for the last owner. The 40year old inside light doesn't do a lot for the interior of these trucks and inless it's a mint truck what differance does it make. It works fine in mine and it gives me plenty of light.

I like them but I have always been a little differant when it comes to my truck.
It's just like cutting the dash for the radio. Hard core guys don't want to cut the dash but they put 20" wheels on it, go figure.

That light fixture was pretty common in mothomes, rv's and van conversions some time ago. Definatley brighter than stock.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
