Lowering Shackles
Hey Guys/Gals, I wanted to lower the rear of my 82 shortbed. I just need 1-2 inches lower to match the front. I have seen shackles, but am trying to visualize how they would work. The front of the leaf is in a frame bracket enclosed on top, and the rear one has a shackle from the frame bracket upwards about 2-3 inches to the leaf. Any ideas? Also looking for a cheap posi rear end, she'll do the one-wheel-peel for a block. Thanks for any input. I am 35 miles west of Chicago.

Re: Lowering Shackles
tha drop shackle longer than tha stock one..which raises tha axle ..thus lowering it..unless you find a square rear with a posi..you can get a powertrax unit..it can be installed easly with no haveing to have that pinion deth & backlash reset like you would if you added a posi diff. to tha rear you got.

Re: Lowering Shackles
Also you have to cut the bed brace just above the shackle for clearance.

Re: Lowering Shackles
Thanks for the helpful tips. I wondered about the clearance in the rear with a longer shackle and the bed right there.
