Dash bezel idea

Hey all, I have been thinking lately that I want to try and find the factory air and vacuum gauges to install in my truck and I was trying to decide if I should ditch the factory clock and just use either the vac or air, but I want to use both. So here is what I came up with:

Not sure if anybody has done this before. What do you guys think?

Anybody have an idea how we can mirror image the small gauge holes in real life?

Re: Dash bezel idea

You may be able to cut a donor bezel and flip the gauge pod things and epoxy from the back into ore drilled holes. The brushed alumn plate would prob have to be used to hide the cuts

Re: Dash bezel idea

I would replace the factory clock. My clock just started not keeping correct time, although it is still ticking. Then the adjustment stem came out of the clock when I was trying to adjust it. I never look at the clock, and have an aftermarket radio with a clock in it, plus I wear a wris****ch, so I see no need for a clock. I can't find a replacement clock from the online suppliers anyway, so it would have to be professionally rebuilt.
I am going to attempt a custom dash, so I found a already "pre-hacked" radio hole bezel on Ebay for about $40 delivered, so I will see how it works out. There are quite a few used bezels on Ebay. I am planning solid wood cut to fit the top of the dash, and foam and vinyl on the front face of the dash. I am hoping to make custom wood surrounds for the defroster vents using the stock vent grilles, which seems like it is going to be the biggest problem. The stock dash never fit those vent openings very well. the air has a lot of opportunity to seep out around the defroster duct terminations, especially since mine are distorted from the heat.

You could use a doner panel and glue in the panel with plastic weld from the back (like insidious said) http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...d=plastic+weld This stuff is amazing. I used it on my fan shroud. Or you could just make the whole thing out of aluminum sheet.

I could go that route but I am big fan of modifications that make people wonder if it was actually factory. So I really want to make it from a real GM dash panel.

I agree with insidious. I will have to cover up the cut marks with the aluminum plating which is ok since my truck has the brushed aluminum already. I am going to be on the lookout for a donor bezel in the junk yards...
