Re: You're going to think I'm crazy!!!!

Front axle is usually the same axle on 1/2 and 3/4 ton except hub with 8 bolt, rear if full floater is better than a 12 bolt.

The axle internals at the diff are the same, but the 3/4ton has stronger shafts and hubs. That said, if I ever do upgrade (likely won't) I'd be looking for a dana 60 from a 1ton.

I would like a Dana 60 front and 14bolt full float rear for my 71 1/2 ton but will wait till something blows as always more other things to spend on first.

Not crazy at all. Trucks are usually a LOT more useful when they are closer to stock form.

I totally understand where you are coming from as I am inheriting a pretty unwieldy rig, and plan to return it to a more stockish state.

In to follow the build.

When I bought the K20 I needed something capable of towing, now I don't.
The benefit of the 73-87 1/2tons is that they are a set of axles and heavier springs away from being 3/4ton capable. So if they need ever arises again I can always upgrade. Or I can just buy a 1ton, if I have the room.

But, that said, this truck is not going to get a huge lift kit (if any) and larger tires. I'm thinking that it's going to get 265's or at most 285's and no lift.
I agree with that I guess. I just a short bed man and I don't think the k20s even came in a short bed right? I like the slighty lifted sporty look of a 1500 4x4.

my 96 z71 I had came stock with a 14 bolt and an extra leaf over most z71s it had a 3/4 lef pack and rear end and I loved that truck for that.

i also like your new truck better . im in to the whole work truck thing more than a lifted/lowered . everyone thought i was mad when i got rid of the big tires i had on my truck when i bought it and swapped for stock ones . but it was harder to handle , rubbed when turning and just not practical for working . nice ride and good luck .
