Junkyard find... but needs a new home!

I hate to see ones like this sitting in a junkyard. I saw this at Pull A Part in Charlotte today. Somebody just hauled it in yesterday. They should be ashamed of themselves. Is anybody lookin?

That is a shame.

I would drop a motor and tranny in her, and drive it as is

Looks pretty straight for its age

Bad thing is, they won't sell the whole truck so it will eventually be crushed. Looks like it it has straight bumpers, grill, and tailgate, and other parts. At least the local Pull-a-part's here in the Atlanta area have rows where they put the old stuff and leave it there for a long time.

Why won't they for a fair price? They get all the money they want at once, less overhead than piecing it out and frees up space. Anyone else notice the old school rear sloted mags?

I'm not sure why they won't but I asked about it once and they said no, they wouldn't sell a whole vehicle.

Re: Junkyard find... but needs a new home!

Most if not all salvage yards are required to "destroy" the title of a vehicle that enters their yard. Once the title has been turned into the DMV as destroyed the vehicle can never be re-titled. That is why they can't sell whole vehicles.

It is sad that the owner had so little faith in the truck that they took it there. Someone would have gladly taken it off their hands.

Re: Junkyard find... but needs a new home!

my local pick n pull wrecking yard has a specific location for vehicles that are worth keeping on the road. Out of the thousands of cars in the yard, there may be 9-10 re-sellable vehicles, most are mid-80's or 90's vehicles, but in the last couple months there was a 1960's Mercedes and a 1950 5-window dodge. It is nice to see they dont immediately destroy every car regardless of condition, but it is true that most end up crushed by laws/regulations. In California the pollution districts fight hard to get rid of old cars, so much so that they will often give you up to $1500 to have your car junked. In this scenario, you take your car to the pick and pull junkyard and they give you a receipt, and regardless of the car the junkyard is required by law to dismantle and destroy the vehicle.

regardless, its always a sad way for a vehicle to end its life.

that truck also has a pair of Pontiac Rally II's up front... that truck either has car hubs to convert to the 5-lug, or someone spent the time and energy on the truck to subframe it. Sad.

These are the kind of things you hope someone steals off the yard.

Re: Junkyard find... but needs a new home!

A lot of yards won't sell whole because most vehicles are worth more parted out. They can make several thousand off of part vs. a few hundred selling it whole. I had a yard owner tell me that once.

Re: Junkyard find... but needs a new home!

I happened to be in portland for the weekend. So i went over to vancouver and went to all american classics junkyard. Didnt find what i wanted. But did get a shop manual. They seem to be one of the few that sell whole cars. They had about 10 for sale. All thier stuff is older. Mostly 50-70's some earlier, some later. And a whole lotta rust. LOL

Some yards do not have a dealers licence, so they can't sell whole cars.
