73-80 suspension on to 67

yeah i just got a complete front suspension with disk brakes off think was 74 chevy pick up and was wondering if it would all bolt up to the 67 front. in other words could i put the lower and uper control arms on it. and all sterring components

Yes, the control arm will bolt up no prob. You can also change the whole crossmember out if you want. All but two bolts will line right up, and those two can be oblonged to work.

I've never done a power steering swap on a 67. Seems like there is some little difference between them and later trucks, or maybe it's 66 and older, hell I can't remember

My 67 frame didn't have an indent for the power steering gearbox. Because of this I'm using 69 frame I had. I used the whole front crossmember with everything from a 73 and it bolted up perfect with exception to that one hole, bottom front on the sides. Nothing a die grinder couln't fix though.

Also, as far as my knowledge knows, you can just use the newer spindles on what you have. Just gotta change the ball joints to match, as well as the outter tie rod.

What is the benifit to swapping the crossmembers. some other replys to a similar question have indicated that the 73-80 arms and cross shafts could just be bolted directly to the 67 crossmember. I'm currently in the process of updating my 67 to the 73-80 arms and would like get some inputs form the experts here.

I did mine years age and used a 77 for parts. I think its a lot easer just to change the uper and lower control arms. I also used the 77 iner and outer tie rod ends and the center link, and of corse the spindales. You can use eather idler arm and pitman arm. Good luck

keep an eye on the upper arm shims, dont lose trackof how many go where under the two upper arm studson both sidesof truck, you will have to visit alignment shop right after this swap


only real difference from 72 to 73 engine cradles is that 72 still had tab with hole for hose to attach toand 73-up hoses go through frame rails and are longer which i think is better anyways, hole is already in 72-older frame rails for 73-up hoses but lines are routed differently

two questions;
will 72 spindles fit in to 67 a-arms(with the 67 ball joints) and what truck had 6 lug disks that will fit with out changing everything to newer (metric) hardwear?

I think you will need both upper and lower balljoints,you also need the 72 tie rod ends .

I'am in the procces of doing this myself on my 69,I have the front suspension all torn out,I just have to get new balljoints and get it back together.

I tried to stick one of my old balljoints into the newer spindles to see what the differance was and it would not fit,the old balljoint was too big.

So let me get this straight.

If I plan on using a '73 & up spindle, all I really need is the '73 & up ball joints and outer tie-rod ends? Will the newer style ball joints fit into my '70 A-arms?


Why bother changing out the A-arms then? Maybe just the upper so I could have poly bushings in there.

I was told that you don't have to change the A-arms just the balljoints and outer tie-rod ends.

I'am going to get the new balljoints on my nexy payday and hopefully get my truck back together.I think I will paint my A-arms first since they are off and clean.

Im will put a post on here when I get it done.Hopefully I wont run into any problems.

I think I am going to use a newer upper A-arm as well, just so I can use poly bushings in them.
