Re: everyone is doing it so i am to........s10 swap on a 51
I was a bit pissed because I listened to too many people that said "get a 4x4 axle, they fit great." I spent $200 for the axle, hauled it home, put it in, and STILL spent $100 on spacers. Good thing a kid in Toledo put 4 up on CL that day. I met him the next day and got 2" all the way around.

Thanks, it worked out pretty good! Next time I'd start with a long bed though, stitching up 2 short bed floors was a lot of work... It's going to get some Al's liner to cover it all up sometime.
And to bring back the width thing...60" is fine if you plan to put tubs in the bed and run a wider tire in the back. 60" is too narrow if you don't want to lose bed width.

Re: everyone is doing it so i am to........s10 swap on a 51
My progress is slow, and use to be steady. Now it's at a stand still, but I've got the '71 to drive around 'till the '51 is done. There are a few things that I can finish up on the '51. Priorities are on the '71 so I can sell the '88 to get rid of a small payment. Then when more funds start coming in I will get back on the '51. We (wife and I) plan on having the '51 driving some time this year.

So you got any updates? Also I was rereading your build and the question about the ZR2 rear i see was coming up. Well I did the same bout a 4wd and still rubbed so I found me a ZR2 rear even though the AD eng website said they are too wide. It fit perfectly plus it was disc setup. 3.73 posi work perfect also on my setup.

Re: everyone is doing it so i am to........s10 swap on a 51
I have a normal 4wd rearend and decided to go with a wider rearend as well. I could not find a zr2 for what I wanted to spend. I really have only ever seen like two on the roads around here.

No updates
I've been working on the '71 mostly, but I sit in the '51 every once and a while. I've thought about the ZR2's but I think that I might just go for a set of spacers. I really haven't though about the rear end for a while now though. I would be nice to find a rear end that would be wide enough to fit without spacers too though. She is still thought about all the time though. Just on the back burner on low is all.

No updates. This has been on the back burner since I've gone back to school, and I've been trying to keep the ol' '71 going.

Re: everyone is doing it so i am to........s10 swap on a 51
Well not how I wanted to end it, but I guess it's an ending.
I sold the old girl on Friday. We're moving east to South Carolina and I couldn't justify dragging it behind with us so she had to go. I know I'll get another AD truck some time. For the next one I'm looking at a '48 or '49. If I can't get one of those maybe I'll look at some other body styles. I took a bunch of pictures before she left so I could remember, sort of, what I did to it.

Wow man that's a bummer. Your build has been a source of inspiration for me and others I'm sure. I hope the new owner takes the time to stand and stare at her as I'm sure you have done and sees all the care and attention to detail you put into it. These trucks really are peices of art no matter if you go old school rat rod or show stopper. You just passed the canvas.

Did you have it up on CL? I don't remember seeing it and I look all the time. I might've came down and bought it if I saw it lol

oh man, I hate seeing project threads end up getting sold. It is sooo sad but
you had good reason and there will always be something else out there that needs luv. But I just couldn't imagine separating with something you get soo involved with. Good luck to you.

Thanks guys. I can't help but feel the big empty spot in my garage now. I'm sure I'll find another.
Yeah I had her up for a while. It's a bummer I couldn't have sold it to another board member.
