exhaust ideas and questions
I'm thinking of redoing the exhaust on my truck and would like to do it on my own and not have a shop do it, but I had a couple questions.
I would like it to be loud without sounding like crap, it is not my daily driver so loud Is very good lol. Can I run a 3" pipe from the headers to mufflers and then dump it before the axle? It is 77 c10 with a 350... Thanks!! Posted via Mobile Device |

If you are terminating the pipes under the truck before the axle, you will be loud, for sure. Maybe a bit quieter in the truck if you were exiting out either side. I ran a similar system under my old Suburban. Headers to some pipe hung inside the frame rail, a turbo muffler each side, and a turn-down out of the muffler. It sounded really healthy when on the gas, but did produce some resonation in the vehicle. tail pipes would have mellowed it out quite a bit, from what I've heard.

Re: exhaust ideas and questions
I ran dual 3" pipes with flowmaster headers on my 82 C10 with headers. It was quite loud both outside and inside the cab. Sounded great.... but you couldn't sneak around anywhere that is for sure. As a matter of fact my wife could hear me coming home at night when I was still 1/2 mile away from the house.

Re: exhaust ideas and questions
I have duals with glasspacks that dump in front of the rear axle from previous owner and I like the sound. A little loud but not overbearing and doesn't seem to cackle. I think I'm gonna go to duals with Thrush Turbo mufflers whan I redo it. Or maybe run duals into one turbo muffler and a dump. 2 1/2" pipe is plenty big for a small block.

Re: exhaust ideas and questions
On my 86 with full headers, the drivers side exits straight into the crossmember and I needed to get custom exh made so an "S" pipe to go over it. None of my local custom muffler shops would touch it because they said that because I changed the engine, it did not conform to the factory emissions standards. Summit has a kit # WLK-89007 that fit like a glove. Took me about an hour to install it. I used Thrush welded mufflers. Nice low rumble at idle, and louder than 40 hells when you nail it.
