Pulled my tranny
Pulled my tranny cuz Ive been trying to find out why I keep going thru starters. I decided it must be be a problem with my flywheel. I didn't put the motor/tranny in. It was just sitting there. Anyways there's a bolt missing and all but two of the bolts were loose. I assume I found my problem. I'm still gonna put in a new flywheel and quality flywheel bolts. Any suggestions? Loctite? What's the torque! Arp bolts!any help will be appreciated,also gonna install a shiftkit(b&m) should I do 1st stage or 2nd? It's just a driver and to have fun in.thanks

When you get you`re now starter flywheel they only go on one way, they are marked, they set you`re then shim you`re starter if needed, and get new bolts from ARP, as far as the shift kit I`d go with the first stage unless you`re trans has been upgraded. happy trails....

Had one a long time ago that kept eating starters. After about the third starter I found out the advance weights where sticking full advance in the dist. Got those fixed never had another starter problem. Just something to look at. I like to use the Transgo shift kits, a -1, or green box we call them. They work good and are easy to install.

Thanks or the responses,got a new flywheel ,new flywheel bols,gonna install the stage 1 shiftkit then get on the flywheel,tranny install. What's the toque specs on the flywheel bolts? Do I use loc tite on the flywheel bolts?

The timing was to far advanced, it would seem to work fine, than once in a while, the engine would kick back (for lack of a better term) because it was so far advanced. Older engine, higher compression than todays engines. One time it actually busted the head of the starter off. I always tought it was the starter going bad or bad starters. The weights were stuck for good when I was replacing the last starter. Just couldn't get it to work right, so I just started checking other things and came across the the fast timing and stuck weights. Have seen the problem a few times since than. I have a trans repair shop and replace lots of flex plates, something I always check. Don't see it to much any more with all the new stuff out. The torque on the bolts should be around 65-75 lb/ft, and definitely use loc-tite.

Well just finished putting the tranny back in and everything else that goes with it ! Took me about 8 hrs alone!!!! And guess what? The exact same ****!!!! Im planning on taking it on the cpp cruise but damn I'm pretty pissed tonite! I'll get back on it in the morning but I'm exhausted and pissed!! I know I'm done for tonite! After the tranny fell on my head!!! Hahaha!!! It'll turn on but the grinding is still there I shimmed it on each side to see what happens and it still grinds. I'll do some ore investigating tomorrow
