Straightening a bumper

How would you guys go about straightening a small dent in one of those heavy bumpers on my 80 squarebody.

Do you think heating it with a propane torch and whacking on it with a small sledge would work or would that be fruitless, its not big or anything but something id like to fix.

Torch and mini sledge wll do it but will need repainting or rechroming

a torch like an acettylene torch , a propane plumbers torch probably wont put
out enough heat

I straighten mine using the cold method. I take a pipe wrench and get leverage against the dent. I'll weld plate to it for larger areas. but an large wrench does do the trick

I've had good luck using a hydraulic shop press to straighten out dents in the bumpers on 60's/70's trucks.

I usually put a block of hardwood on top of the press plates to protect the finish (especially on chrome bumpers). And often use a chunk of thick steel plate between the press and backside of the bumper to spread out the load.

If the very edge of the bumper is bent or slightly twisted, a large crescent wrench works good to straighten it out.

the (dead blow) type hamers work good but u need a big one like a 8-10 lb
