Re: granny four speed to 350?

You will need V-8 motor mounts, a shroud, at least a 3 core radiator, a 350 clutch kit, a manual flywheel, etc.

I am sure others will chime in.

Re: granny four speed to 350?

You can use your flywheel, clutch and bellhousing. But you will need SB V-8; motor mounts, clutch Z-bar, eng. z-bar ball stud & mount bracket, rod (to the pedal), and trans.(bell housing) cross member. The 6cyl. and SBC V-8 4-speed trans. cross members are different. Pretty sure your driveshaft won't be the right length either. If your not going to leave it a 4-speed I would wait till your ready to put the TH-350 in it.

Z-bar might be the same.

Re: granny four speed to 350?

The Z-bars are your clutch linkage. I swapped a 250 for a 305V8 with headers & had to custom make the linkage. Maybe someone can come up with a picture. We were able to mount the 305 in the 6 cylinder mounting location & besides the distributor being very close to the firewall, everthing else worked.

Re: granny four speed to 350?

hope this helps!
i put a 305 in place of a 250i6 and i wanted to do it so i could replace in the future with a 292i6.
i used the original i6 bellhousing/flywheel/clutch/pressure plate and starter mtr and all associated bolts and linkages.
the front crossmember mtr mounts stayed in the same place as did the gearbox x-member and driveshaft and i used v8 engine mnts.
the i6 had the clutch z-shaft pivot bolt on a plate bolted to side of block so i made my own using a normal hex bolt that went went into the bolthole in the v8 block(note some blocks don't have this hole in which case i think you are in trouble)--i ground the hex to a round shape to fit inside the pivot shaft and used grease for asssembly--the linkage from clutch pedal to pivot shaft and pivotshaft to clutch release arm worked perfectly.
the dizzy sits close to the firewall with no issues at this stage and a good size aircleaner fits as well--performer inlet manifold and 600 holley carb and normal dizzy wirth pertronic conversion.
i used 3" spacer on water pump and a surburban fan and shroud.
everything else was normal apart from bypassing resister wire from firewall wiring harness block to give full pwr to dizzy-same thing you have to do if using hei dissy.
heres some photos

Re: granny four speed to 350?

in the above photos i still need to extend the plastic shroud to cover 1/3 of the fan to make it draw air properly.
some closeup photos
the clutch pivot can be seen under the brake lines behind the ramshorn downpipe

here it is again between the exhaust and steering column

Re: granny four speed to 350?

Diddn't know if you kept the V-8 in the I6 postion you could use your I6 crossmember and driveshaft. Ahh!

Re: granny four speed to 350?

the 350 is in and running awesome.....only thing was that my engine set back pretty close to firewall so my fan was quite a ways from the radiator...i fixed that by getting a fan shround for a 4x4...(longer snout)...my fan lined up perfect and it draws air and cools great....I was gona swap out the granny low 4 speed but decided to keep it and i'm glad i did.....

Hey Kevin can you post some pics of the clutch bar installed on the v8? Does the part that bolts to the block fit as well?
