Uneven Windshield Wipers!!!!

So Summer is coming up and I need to replace my windhield wipers. Who ever had the truck before me put the passenger wiper a bit higher than normal. So I need to know how to take the wiper arm off and put it back on in the right position. I'm not talking about the wiper blade, I'm talking the wiper arm that holds the blade... Please help.

Re: Uneven Windshield Wipers!!!!

hi at the post where it joins on
there is a small nib, sticks out under the arm
there is a tool that prys the nib "lock" away from the post
but if carefull it can be done with a flat screwdriver
all while holding the wiper blade off the window, and spring tension is curling the end around, into the post....

Theres a tab under the wiper arm at the rotator, you need to pull that back with a flat head screw driver and work the arm off. This can be tricky to do, and you have to be careful not to scratch your paint. There is a tool that LMC sells, I don't know if it makes it much easier, you could try that. After you get it off, it's just a matter of adjusting the arm up or down (which ever way you need to go), and popping it back on. Oh and make sure your wipers are in the off position before you do anything.

Re: Uneven Windshield Wipers!!!!

Just to add to what has already been said -

The wiper motor post is splined, as is the inside of the wiper arm. All you are going to do is slip it off the post and re-index it in the correct position.

Sounds easy enough, but it is made more complicated by the fact that (a) it's hard to slip off, and (b) it's hard to slip on, because the spring that keeps the wiper forced against the windshield is going to want to kick the wiper arm base out of position.

Good luck - it's not rocket science but definitely made more tricky by the perversity of the parts yer workin' with.

Re: Uneven Windshield Wipers!!!!

I just added new arms the other day.. I put one on that sat a little too high.. it was a bi@$#% to get off... I ended up ripping it off and the little tab you guys are taking about flew across the garage never to be seen again..

It was still pretty hard to get it one without the tab.. it's stuck pretty damn good without the tab.. so I pulled the tab out of the other one before I put it on the other side..
