Re: leaf spring hangers 1965

I wish I would have kept mine. My truck had leaf springs and I switched back to trailing arms so it was easier to bag. Cant see why you cant search a you pull parts yard and find something you can make work??

Re: leaf spring hangers 1965

Why couldn't one use newer model hangers?
Like 73-87?

That might be the best idea for the OP. However I told him to post a WTB in the '60-'66 classifieds, so we'll see if someone happens to have what he needs.

Re: leaf spring hangers 1965

Ok I fab my own hangers.. But one question should I use the leaf springs and shakles from the 77" donor ? On the gmc it had 9 leafs and the donor only 4.. So what should I go with ??? Should does 4 drop my truck lower?

Re: leaf spring hangers 1965

WOW! those look very nice Quite beefy!

Well that would depend on whether the '77 shackles and springs will work with your new rear hangers and the original front hangers. I would think the '77 springs might give you a smoother ride, but I have no idea on any change to the ride height. if you can compare the two side by side that will give you some idea on the ride height question. Although, the actual spring rate will play a part in that.

Re: leaf spring hangers 1965

Is Summit trying to tell you something about installing those bushings?

Somewhere here is a list that should tell you what you have by the stamped code on the passenger side axle tube. if it were me, I would pull the rear cover and have a look. The rear differential is one of the most neglected parts for maintenence. The gear oil most likely needs changed. It will only cost you 2 quarts of 80W90 gear oil and a cover gasket. Then you will know exactly what gears you have, and have peace of mind that your differential has fresh oil.

Summit five hour racing, your gonna need it, lol. Yeah if that thing has been condisating, check for rust on the pinion while your counting the splines. Emory cloth and elbow grease if not too bad, and some new gear oil for sure.
