anyone know how to remove stock steering shaft

im trying to remove the shaft and column so i can finish some detail work on the cab and i couldn't get it out today, and in the process screwed up the steering box, still turns, but takes a 1 1/2 turns to engage

The column, shaft and box are one piece. You have to remove it as an assembly from the frame.

Pick up a Factory Assembly manuel and Service manual. The Filling Station http://www.fillingstation.com has them along with other parts suppliers.

He is correct. you have to unbolt the box from the frame and with the steering wheel off take the whole assembly out the bottom.

so why is that this rod has the replacement sticker from classic parts on it when i pulled the four bolts off and tried taked the column and rod out, box has been rebuilt,

Do you have the stock style steering column? The stock style has to be taken out as mentioned before, if is different then a picture might be in order.

The normal process is to take the whole box and column out of the truck and then take it apart to rebuild or repair it.
