500 thousand miles!
just met the original owner of this 72 today. its got 500k miles on it! straight as an arrow, and a nice light patina. i was bummed to hear he's got it reserved for his kids in his will, but that's pretty cool...

Re: 500 thousand miles!
My uncle's neighbor in columbia, sc had a green 71/72 stepside that had over 400K on it about 10 years ago, but that's also about when he passed and I think the truck ended up getting killed. It LOOKED like it had that many miles. Not a straight panel anywhere and the interior looked like it had a million miles on it. That there is a nice truck!

Re: 500 thousand miles!
That's cool. It's pretty cool that he intends to pass it on to his kids. Hopefully they are serious about it's upkeep.

Re: 500 thousand miles!
Bought the truck in 1986 it had a little over 79,000 on it.
I have drove it ever since for a D/D. The outside skin is all orignal never been wrecked. Rear end is orignal 4:10 frame is all orignal. I would say close to 400,000 now. This truck has been up and down I-85 in South & North Carolina more than I like. From 1986 to a couple of years ago when I got on the team I'm on now I was on the road everyday it seemed!

Re: 500 thousand miles!
Thanks. I used it for a big suite case when I traveled. It was nice.
I traveled between Mcguire, Catawba and Oconee nuclear stations. When we weren't refurbishing the old hydro stations. The truck has been to Fla, Ga, Tenn. NC, SC, Va.

Re: 500 thousand miles!
I've got a neighbor who bought a '72 K20 brand new. I was looking at it the other day and the odometer had 68,000 miles on it. I asked him if it was 168,xxx or 268,xxx. He says it's almost to 600,000. It's his daily driver too. The only other vehicle I have ever seen him drive on the highway is a grain truck.

Re: 500 thousand miles!
My next door neighbor has a Dodge Ram (gas version, I think its a 1995) and it has almost 600,000 miles on it. Three transmissions and two engines. He says everything has been replaced at least once. Every time he goes to get it fixed or to put a new motor or tranny in it they tell him to buy a new one...and it keeps running. It' his daily driver.
That's a cool story about a C10 making it that long looking so good. Having it look that clean after that many years is hard to do... |
