'84 6.2 Burb + 91 6.2 motor = water pump issue! Help!?!
Bought an '84 Burb that the PO had replaced the original 6.2 Diesel with one out of a '91 (or '92). The '91s serpentine system was gone so he set up a V-belt system on it. Ran it up and down the road; went fine. Long idle; fine.
Sold it to me. Driving it home, (12 miles) the temp pegs! Am I right in figuring that the water pump is flowing in the wrong direction? I've googled this and it seems to show there may be a problem replacing the '91 water pump with an '84 because of the backing plate and/or timing cover may not be compatible between the two engines? If this is the case, is there such a thing as a reverse flow water pump for these? OR,,,,,,, am I looking at this all wrong!?!?!?

The serpentine belt set-up uses a water pump with reverse rotation. If the P.O. didn't change the water pump to an earlier v-belt design you impellers are backwards and not giving adequate circulation.
