TBI 350 in a 65 chevy

So last weekend the 700r4 in my 91 silverado crapped out on me, i have my 92 as my daily driver so the thought was to pull the motor to drop into the 65 and part the rest of the truck, the question is can we keep the tbi setup fairly easily, is it going to be a wiring nightmare? or do we just swap the manifold out for a carb?
the 65 is torn apart right now doing a th350 conversion and some suspension work so if its a simple enough swap in the tbi now would be the time to do it.

Has anyone done this conversion? build thread? links? anything would help

Re-use the wiring harness from the 91. You'll have to get a wiring diagram for the 91 to determine what you can and cannot remove if you don't want everything. You'll probably have to cut/splice some wires.

Ultimately going with a carb manifold would be the easiest since there's less crap to wire up, but you can stay TBI if you want. It's all in how much work and time do you want to put into it.

Painless, as well as Ron Francis make plug and play wire harness that are easy to install. The other thing to consider is the fuel system, but there are aftermarket inline pumps that work just fine.
I am doing a TBI on a big block in my Suburban now.

Ill have to go through the forrum when im on a real computer, were parting out a buddy's suburban too so we could use the tank and pump and a few other parts from that, ideally if I could use the tbi top end and only have to use the brain and a few sensors I'd be all over it, I just dont want an overly involved wiring nightmare

Keep all the tbi sensors. There is not really that many and it will run best with no codes if you don't start removing stuff in less you want to burn a new chip for it. Use the harness in the 91, TBI wiring is stupidly simple. Looks real imitating at first but once you know where every thing goes it is very easy. Make it a stand alone system with a couple of relays and you only will need a couple of wires to trigger the relays with out putting any strain on the 65 harness.

I agree 100% The TBI is really quite simple. Look around and see if you can find the wiring schematics for that '91 engine wiring. That will tell you what is what. If that is just too overwhelming for you, then one of the aftermarket conversion wiring harnesses would be the way to go. I think the TBI harnesses are one of the cheapest, since these have been for so many years. One thing you will need that is often overlooked, is a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) reading to the ECM. The engine will not run correctly without it, unless you have that deleted in a new chip. You can get an external VSS to add to your TH350. They were used on the early TBI applications from '87 thru the early 90's, often times on vehicles with TH400's.

All the trucks I have pulled the systems off of have had the vvs under the dash and in line with the spedo but wrong fittings on the cable ends for a old school spedo.
